Update, I've notices Y-axis rotation value change from -176 to 176. Changed it toi -176, the figure is not flying so far. Let me see what comes out of it.
I am pretty new at this as well (November) and was having a horrible time trying to do Posing and Animation. The best tip I came across is to look at mcasual's scripts and utilities.
https://sites.google.com/site/mcasualsdazscripts/
One of my favorites is mcjAutoLimb
It will try to keep a chosen limp where you want or move it towards a specific location. I'm still practicing with it. I think once you have these tools it is case of practicing a lot. Some of the things that were killing me in the beginning I can handle without a problem now.
If you look at post at the end of my thread on "Posing Assistance Please" you will see the list of mcasual's script that I am already using.
https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/220566/posing-assistance-please
He is very active. I asked him a question on January about why his mcjHoldOn script didn't have an animation range like some of his other popular scripts and he actually added that feature and had it up on his site within a couple hours.
Hey poorman_65
Thanks for the tip and link. I checked this out before. I don't believe that would help my problem though. I seem to be missing something essential that prevents me from finishing my project. I guess by now I narrowed it down to be able to move the Hip value more than 180 degrees.
Ok, good:) Keep us posted;)
It seems like I can't do it without turning limits off. Therefore, I will do the walk piece separately. I will then save the walk poses in Puppeteer and import them to the main scene.
I guess I spoke too soon..
Ok so the hip rotations are the problem, so now we know that. Since the hip centerpoint is not at the floor level any other rotation than y will make the legs slide all over the place. As I suggested earlier the only way to go is to translate/rotate the figure using the root node which centerpoint is at floor level. DON'T rotate the hip! Only use the hip for VERY small (corrective) translations for the movements between the main keyframes. And, as I also said earlier, For EVERY keyframe related to figure movement create keyframes for ALL the sub nodes: root node, hip, pelvis, thighs, shins, feet, toes etc. That will more or less eliminate the sliding of the legs. The keyframes must be complete, you must record all rotations and translations for every key! For that I usually use the + button in the timeline but it can also be done in keymate. I usually create the main keyframes first: Sitting on chair: Select the rootnode and expand it in scene tab and select everything from the hip down and press + button, done. Go to Standing in front of chair and repeat, go to 1st step and repeat. You get the picture? When done and you have the whole sequense main frames ready start creating the in between keys using the same method. Lastly create the torso/ arm/head movements and expressions when the walk is working.
The problem with rotation can be solved if you understand how DS is thinking. Create a cube primitive and make a test scene, pretend it is the root node, try transforming it and rotating it around the chair. Start with it being zeroed at 0,0,0. Make next main keyframe and click + to record the key. At some point when rotation exceeds 180, say 270, DS sees it as -90. Therefore you have to dial in 270 in parameters/general/rotations or it will spin the wrong way. Well something along these lines anyway=) So I suggest you try with the cube to make it as easy as possible so you can see how it works. Then use that technique on your G2F rootnode and go from there.
This is certainly only one way of doing it but I know it works for me, and I made a rough test using a G2F and a chair and could make her go around the chair without spinning all over;) Cheers!
ETA: If someone has a better way of doing it, please chime in;)
You can use Memorize and Restore action to fill in the keyframe gaps in the timeline. Select the whole figure or parts of it and memorize on one frame and go to some other frame and paste the current values of poses or also morphs on another frame. With the figure nodes you have choosen / selected - I would press F5:Memorize / right-arrow (next frame) / or Ctrl+right-arrow (next key-frame) / F6:Restore for all frames I want.
I have Customized DS see my thread Customized Main-Menu - Extended @ How to Customize Daz Studio
...now i have the Actions on hand with the:
F4:Memorize | F3:Restore : Figure -and- F5:Memorize | F6:Restore : Item Keys - remember to select children first if you want to have a custom selection of children nodes / bones - someone could also use shortcutkeys for that Select Children action - but the right-click menu on the node of choice within the figure bone hirarchy list in the Scene pane will do the job just fine.
DazStudio interpolates everything (not always like you want it)
Again I think you get strage movment because DazStudio interpolates with the default TP..? settings change that to linear on the hip keyframe(s). Maybe have a look at graphmate.
Here I have a good tutorial video for that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exjHJXAB8nA&feature=youtu.be
Edit_2: To get the animation right you have to take care of the right curve shape - the tutorial video 1st shows a custom animation curve with adding more keyframes and 2nd the problem with unwanted default interpolation settings and how to fix that by changing the keyframe(s) to Linear interpolation mode.
Have another place for the Figure root node (body center point)
Another Idea I once had was to open the Edit_1:
geometryJoint Editor and changing the root node / body center point usualy on the floor to the same as the hip position, created a new Property and saved that new rig-setting to the Property by using ERC-Freeze. But then if you use move (drop) to floor Ctrl+D the figure uses the root node center point to drop or heighten it to the floor level. My suggestion of a Main Figure Group
Maybe one could use a Group first create then parent the figure - always a good idea while working with figures and clothes to turn all visibility on them on and off with one click at the eye icon in the Scene pane.
Next create a Null and let the Group, with the figure parented, Point At the Null and get the point direction fixed with the Joint Editor on the Group. I cant tell in which direction (axis) the Group would usualy Point At the Null - proppably its the +Y-axis by default for Group(s) and Null(s) - check the Joint Editor center/end-points for that and then use "Memorize Selected Nodes Rigging".
With that your figure should then always point its front (face) / walk direction to the Null during animation (let the figure root node be zero) - take care to keep the Null on floor level if you dont want to do crazy backflip jumbs or something ;). You could also use the "Lock" on selected Properties in the Parameters pane in Edit-Mode - in case of the main Figure Group you can Lock some of the Transformation(s) (Rotation X/Z or Scale) or other Properties on the figure(s) that you dont want to change by accident or by loading PreSets (Pose) from the library to the figure(s). Or even "Using Limits" on the main Figure Group Transformation Properties - while setting Min/Max values both to zero - to prevent other issues with Point At.
Guys, you are awsome! Thank you for spending your time and compiling all those recomendations. Since I am 90% done with the project I think they will help me to finalise it. I'll keep you posted.
One hint from another thread:
I wouldnt use Puppeteer - instead why not 1st save yourself some figure poses of the main sitting / standing ... poses in your animation.
2nd then you can also use the Save Pose Set to save animations with the option in the upper part of the save dialouge.
3rd use a plugin I may have suggested earlier http://www.pilning.net/PoseItPlugin.pdf to blend between the sitting and standing pose and then do the "walk in a circle" around the chair animation.
Here are some similar threads I posted in to help dash2128 with animation problems.
Once the figure animation is done maybe you need some cool camera movments?
If you start to set keyframes on the camera(s) you may also get issues with that the cammea(s) starts to spin like crazy - i've read a post somwhere - again some interpolation issues happened there with the camera keyframes default and wrong interpolation not easy to have smooth camera movement paths during animation.
Also notice the little hint I wrote in the screenshot @Camera Tracker on the Point At function and how to handle the Z-axis rotation with "Using Limits" On while setting Min/Max values both to zero.
For that have a look at:
Camera Tracker: with Poit At Null Object for dynamic Camera Focus including Rigid Follow Nodes @ Animation Tools

In best case it would answer following up questions the thread opener didn't yet think of or other readers may come up with.
Hey Syrus_Dante
That's some profound work you've done. I will try to get to the links to update my knowledge. Meanwhile I have started over for the 100th time. I recall Sven suggesting earlier to do the walk cycle and then make the figure move around. This seems to be working, just need to master the movements. I will definetely post what came out ofthis whole thing. Thanks again!

Edit_1: I've UPDATED my Bookmark list in my previous post.
"Ok, in case anybody is interested...I throw the white flag on this. "
I'm sorry to hear it didn't work out for you! As I said it was not an easy task to take on but you at least solved the biggest issue with the flying around so well done:) Hope to see you back in the future and good luck with your project!
Thank you Sven! You've been the greatest help since the very beginning of this ordeal.
GETTING THERE! Since my last post I decided to have another go at this and something had started working out. What I did was:
1. I deleted the keyframes where the problem started occurring
2. Animated a straight walk without turns carefully watching all the body and hip axis
3. Set the end point for the Y rotations and xyz translations.
It started taking some shape. Please see
I am struggling with the sliding feet now but it's a different story and I know volumes have been writtin in the forum about it. Any ideas how I can improve this? Thank you all again!
Wow that made me happy
! Very well done mate! I'm afraid there are no shortcuts though, only hard work lol. You need to adjust the leg rotations to sync with the figure/hip translations, zoom in on her feet and jump back and forth between keyframes and adjust legs until the foot she is standing on stays in the same place. You're halfway there my friend!
Thank you Sven! Halfway, though...:) Ok, I'll keep on working. I see the light in the end of the tunnel
Hi everyone, thanks again for support. Please see the outcome of my deliberations. I couldn't ahieve the grainless quality but it's the first one so...
Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you! My major issue was the movement, rememeber? I ended up buying the sexy walk ^) but still had trouble with sliding feet. The issue with smooting modifer could have been caused by the fact that the outfit is for V4 and it's a G2 figure. I've done a ton of reading about lighting but couldn't get to a better result trying to balance time vs quality. Overall rendering took 16 hrs for the figure animaiton only. I set the Max Time/Iteration values to very low. Otherwise it woud take me days to render. Any suggestions? Also I couldn't figure out body morphs on the hard surface (chair) other than just dipping it lower.
Well have you considered rendering in 3DL, you would probably get a sharp and grain-free result much quicker. That's one main reason to why I use 3DL exclusively;) When rendering animations I usually manage to keep rendertimes under 1 min/frame with 1080p resolution.
Hmmm. Never thought of that. I'll try my next render with it. Thanks
