My user name/handle seems to have been changed.

I noticed recently that my user name is 'mark128'. This is not a name I would ever makeup. I recall my user name was just 'mark'. I checked some old posts where people quote my message and was able to confirm that as recently as April 15th my user name was 'mark'. My memory is not completely gone yet.

Now I can understand that 'mark' might be a popular handle. As I recall I was surprised I could get it. There probably is some more important Mark that needs that handle now. Somebody decided to change my handle some time in the last few weeks. The thing I find irritating is they did it without even informing me or asking me what new handle I would like. I think his also caused some problems with PMs I had sent to a vendor. He was unable to reply. I now suspect it was because my handle had been changed.

I am not strongly attached to the 'mark' handle. If someone else wants it, that's fine, but I don't like 'mark128' at all. I went to the forum control panel under 'Username and Password" it says "The administrator does not allow usernames to be changed."

Does this mean I am stuck with the 'mark128' handle forever?

    The PM system doesn't work if more that one person has the same username, so we sometimes need to change them. Send a PM to Richard Haseltine with your preferred username (and a few alternates in case it isn't available) and he can change it to something more to your liking.

    The reason that your Forum Screen name was changed was indeed because there were duplicates. It is the duplication of a Forum user name that stops the PM system working correctly, Once the different Mark's were given numbers, to make them unique, then the PM system will start working properly again.

    Unfortunately this new software does not stop people creating duplicate screen names, as it counts your login email as User name, as do most Commercial Store software packages, and will not allow this to be duplicated, so your log in is always unique.

    Given the number of people who had selected just "Mark" since the new site went live it would have been quite a chore to send each one an email, but we do apologise for it not having been done.

    Do remember to give Richard your login Email addy in the PM, so he knows for certain which Mark you are. :coolsmile:

    I was, frequently, accused of BEING Mikey from that commercial when I was younger.
