I just got the IBL Skis christmas gift, but nothing appears when i clicked on it, i just see the default gray sky Daz3d opens with, how do I get the sky to appear?

  • Nothing will show until you render, and you will need Draw Dome to be on in Render Settings (assumign this is Iray).

As Richard told you, you have to render, you can not see them in an OpenGL preview.

  • Sorry, i didn't see my first post after i first made it so i thought it didn't work.

  • Merged threads

  • Thanks, so how do I apply the pre-sets? Do I just double click them when i'm setting up a scene and they apply when i render the image? Or do I use the render settings before i click render?

I'm a total noob to this, and pretty lost on lighting, could you tke me through the steps or post a link to something that'll go over it?

  • You can do either, it doesn't matter when you load it. You will be able to see what sky map is loaded in your Render Settings tab under Environment.

  • Now i'm rendering a new image, i've got a Gen 3 female and male, a blue sky dome, jackson's field for environment, and i added 3delight basic camera and light settings.

I render but i can't see the image, i kinda can, it's just really dark, how do i fix this?

Take a look at my Iray lighting tutorial, you don't know what the settings do and this will tell you how to lighten things up, what different sliders do, etc. You need to understand the Render pane, and what Film ISO  and Exposure Value do (and why I start with the ISO and not Exposure Value) and then how you can use Environment Intensity too. You're trying to go about it in a piecemeal type approach, and that tutorial will guide you through step by step. There's other tutorials by topic on the first page of that thread. Good luck and have fun, it's easy once you get Film ISO, Exposure Value, and a few other things understood.

  • Yeah i tried loading the field by itself and it worked, so was it the blue sky dome that was in the way? Can i make it work with that blue sky dome, is it about the settings? Or can you just not use any sky dome with any scene you want?

And thanks for the tutorial link.

You will have to decide what rendering engine to use and go from there, as IRay and 3Delight both have their pros and cons. In 3DL skydomes work fine as they usually are set up to not cast shadows, which you can do in 3DL but not with IRay. In IRay you use HDRI's to cast light which is like a virtual skydome which cannot be seen before you render your scene. Find some tutorials and start from there;) Good Luck

Edited to add: Both renderers use their own lights and materials and mixing them will most likely lead to such problems as your scene ibeing dark when rendered or surfaces being to glossy or reflective, stuff like that.

  • Skydomes/HDRIs are intended to give light in an Iray render, so you shouldn't need any extra lights. Especially 3DL lights, they are not compatable with Iray with out some fiddling.
