Ok so I am trying to make a image similar to the promo for the LIE and I can not figure out how to get the ripped flesh look. Is that a custom texture they made the placed it over the muscle map?

Not enough info, but I'm sure they used the Layered Image Editor (LIE) to do the render. LIE is built into DS4.5 - DS4.6 now so you do not need to buy LIE any longer.

I guess what I am asking if you look at the promo picture (as if you wanted to buy it) it shows V4 or V5 with with ripped off sections of skin and you can see the muscle underneath it. I was wondering how they did that. Was it a custom made texture where the torn flesh was cut out or is a setting in the LIE interface itself?

If you have a base texture and the muscle maps you just need to load them both as layers in LIE and add a black-and-white mask image (black where you want the lower layer, presumably the muscles, to show through and white where you want the skin texture) to the upper layer (for each map, head, torso and limbs).
