[Poser 11.1 not loading .rsr preview images] anyone have a suggestion to fix this?

The free RSR to PNG Converter on Renderosity. Run it before you index, and it will sort out any missing thumbnails. Or are you saying that you can't see any thumbnails at all?
RSR's haven't been supported since Poser 8. For Windows, Dizzi's converter works great. It works recursively, so you can run it on your entire library while you sleep. Dizzi's site is here; second post...
