Huge files with Genesis

I added 4 genesis figures and the file grew from about 70 MB TO 2 GB!
I deleted the genesis figures from the file and saved it again, but the file is still huge, about 1.3 GB.
Did anyone encountered such an issue? If so, is there a way to overcome it? Its bogs down the computer and becomes impractical to work with the file.
Thanks.

    HI Eyos :)

Use Remove unused / Objects .. then Remove unused / Shaders

despite deleting a figure from the scene, it remains available (for undo) until you remove unused,

Currently genesis is saved with all it's morphs which can make a pretty large file depending on what genesis morphs you have installed,.
Bear in mind that 8.5 is still a beta version, not the final product..

Thanks a lot for your quick reply, it did the trick! :-)

I need to add about about 15-25 people to my scene.
What is the best way to add about 15-25 people without getting into memory problems?
Will V4 figures consume less memory and are more practical at this time? (until genesis for Carrara is finalized).
    Thanks.

Do they need to be unique characters or is it a generic crowd? Providing the characters do not need to be unique, you might wish to consider a replicator.

Another couple (possibly) relevant questions would be: Are you using a 64 bit version of Carrara? Do you have enough memory installed? Are you using hi-res textures or the default standard-res textures?

They need to be unique. I use the 64 bit version. I don't use high res.
I have tried the V4 figures and they seem to work ok for me now.
I'll try to use fewer people and hope to get away with it.

Also check that you are saving the textures externally. It's a checkbox in the save as dialog. Saving them internally will dramatically increase the file size.

    Yes, I save it externally.

Actually if you use the save locally option Carrara will reference the image map files from where they're originally located. I've never had much luck with the save externally option as it seems Carrara wants to create a crapload of .tiff files. Can be a real PITA if you have a large scene.

Regarding the number of figures, if you're using 64 bit, you shouldn't run into a lot of memory issues with Carrara itself. The Assembly Room view might get doggy though as that relies on OpenGL and your graphics card.

Have you tried to optimize the assembly room view using the Interactive Renderer? To get to it, click the icon that looks like an up arrow within a circle at the top of the window. If you have not, try lowering the texture resolution down from it's default. Try turning off transparency. You could adjust the performance slider over a bit, etc. Don't worry about lowering settings in the Interactive Renderer. It has absolutely no effect on the Render Room settings.

Note that the Interactive Render settings are scene specific. It's not like a preference.

I followed your advice and it helps, it seems for responsive. Thanks!

    Glad to help!

I forgot another tip. I don't know if it will help with responsiveness or even if it's really necessary in the 64 bit version, but if you run into memory issues, go to Carrara's preferences and select imaging and scratch disk. You should see an option for texture spooling. Adjust it way down, but not to zero. Carrara defaulted it to nearly half my RAM. I currently have it set to under 100 MB.
