Maybe a DIM Problem - or just me panicking (or both)?

Hi all,
I have installed Daz in January and have since bought content but had only recently managed to find the time to start learning and using the software.

I am using the DIM from day one to download and install my content and have recently updated to the latest version. I used all the recommended default paths for installation and didn’t make any changes to this.

I have noticed that apart from my default C - Public User file path (C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library) I have also another Daz folder setup in C:\Users\myName\ My Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio.
Within this setup are two folders: 1) ‘My Library’ and 2) ‘Render Library’
Whereas the ‘Render Library’ is an empty folder, the ‘My Library’ folder has the following sub-folders:
o ‘Figures’ (empty)
o ‘Presets’ with further subfolders: ‘Character’; ‘Dformer’; ‘Materials’ and ‘Poses’ (all empty)
o ‘Scene Subsets’ contains my own saved scene subsets
o ‘Scenes’ contains my own saved scenes
o ‘Scripts’ with a sub-folder ‘Utilities’ that contains the following files:
* Add Levels of Detail.dse
* Morphforms to Transform.dse
* PowerLoader Developer.dse
* SnapParent.dse
+ Within the ‘Utilities’ subfolder is another sub-folder’ MoveScripts’ that contains the following files:
• Move Down.dsa
• Move Up.dsa
• Next Sibling.dsa
• Previous Sibling.dsa

I guess my question is if this is part of the ‘normal’ Daz setup – should it be there and what is the function of it?
Thanks

    This sounds like a normal setup.

    The C:\Users\myName\ My Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library use to be the library for DAZ Studio. This is the default location the old installers would install content.

    The C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library is the new default location used by DIM.

    Both of these should be available from DAZ Studio. If you go to the Content tab (not the Smart Content tab), you should see both libraries listed under DAZ Formats and Poser Formats.

    I have both of these libraries. I am letting DIM do all of installation in the Public library. Any content that does not have a DIM installer yet or is from a non-DAZ source, I install in My Library under my account. This way I can be sure that content I install from someplace else will not confuse DIM.

    DS4.(anything) creates the My library folder on install. As DS4.5 and above no longer include content at Install (DS4.0 did) that folder is not needed. It is just part of the default installer. You could have pointed DIM to that folder as the install path and it would have worked just as well as long as you were the only user on the PC. The new Public location is so all users of a PC have access to the DS content without needing folder permissions from a Admin account on the shared PC.

    Thanks Jaderail and mark128 for your reply.
    I should most likely wait till Saturday when I won’t be too tired and have had time to digest what you are saying – but I do feel now more confused than before. So be patient, keeping in mind that I had a 14 hour work day and will be going to work tomorrow again – and maybe I’m just overly neurotic and don’t like it when things unexpectedly happen in the background.

    I do get the fact that the C:\Users\myName\ My Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library used to be the old install path. But when I started out with Daz 4.5 and DIM the default was the Public location. I never installed an earlier Daz version – just 4.5 and never installed content manually or non-Daz content and didn’t change the default DIM location (Public).

    What bugs me is that for the first few months the ‘myName’ location didn’t exist, but then one day it just appeared out of the blue. At that stage I did check my Content Directory Manager and this pathway was not listed, just the Public one. It didn’t bother me then as all of the folders were empty at that stage and I just ignored it. But since I’ve upgraded to 4.6 the ‘myName’ location had all of a sudden files in the folders and the Content Directory Manager now shows this location – without me doing anything (that I’m aware off).

    So just out of curiosity sake:
    If neither Daz 4.5 or the DIM created this old location and I didn’t install any content – how / why did these folders and files all of a sudden appear in the ‘myName’ location?

    Lastly – I gather you are saying that all is well and just ignore it?

    Thanks!
