    which folder permissions?

  • see devisee devi Posts: 60

Richard this is what I have tried over the past couple of days:

with the help of apple support I have :

    - made sure that my account is the admin account

    - made sure all permissions are read and write on my account by "applying to all enclosed items"

    - ran first aid from disk utilities while logged in

    - tried reinstalling fresh download of app

    - did safe boot to refresh system caches

    - made test user and tried reinstalling fresh download of app

    - booted to recovery mode and then ran first aid on hard drive again

    - tried reinstalling fresh download of app in another location

Each time I try to install I still get the same error.

Can you please help? I would really like to use this this application.

(i should also note that this is a new mac, like a few days old, so there really shouldn't be any issue with caches or system that need to be fixed)

(prior to the steps listed in my previous message I also tried the steps outlined here https://kb.wisc.edu/helpdesk/page.php?id=7567 but still the error message comes up)

Mac OS X - Error Creating folder...Access Denied

This document explains what needs to be done if you receive an "Access denied" error when trying to install a program on a computer running Mac OS X.

Mac OS X requires you to be logged in as an administrator when you install applications. If you are logged in as an administrator but are unable to install applications, either permissions for the Mac OS system files or your administrator account may be damaged. Apple Disk Utility restored privileges of the Mac OS system files to their default configuration.

Solution 1: Mac OS 10.2.x Users Only

Use Apple Disk Utility to repair the disk permissions.

    1. Start Apple Disk Utility, which is in the Applications/Utilities folder.
    2. Click the First Aid tab.
    3. Select the volume on which you want to install the program, and then click Repair Disk Permissions.
    4. Attempt installing the program.
    5. If this does not resolve the issue proceed on to Solution 3.

Solution 2: Mac OS 10.3 (and up) Users

Use Apple Disk Utility to repair the disk permissions.

    1. Start Apple Disk Utility, which is in the Applications/Utilities folder.
    2. On the left hand column of the Disk Utility screen, select the volume on which you want to install the program.
    3. On the First Aid tab click Repair Disk Permissions
    4. Attempt installing the program.
    5. If this does not resolve the issue proceed on to Solution 3.

Solution 3: All Mac OS 10.x.x Users

Create a new user account with administrator rights.

    1. From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
    2. Choose View > Users.
    3. Click New User.
    4. Click the Identity tab. Enter a name for the user account in the Name and Short Name text boxes.
    5. Click the Password tab. Enter a password in the Password and Verify text boxes.
    6. Select Allow User to Administer this Computer, and then click Save.
    7. When prompted, click Turn Off Automatic Login.
    8. Attempt installing the program.

You may get more help if you move this thread over to the New Users Forum.  You can do that by clicking the gear icon at the right hand side of your first post in this thread.  Click on edit from the dropdown and then look to the left of the next screen and select New Users from the drop down under "Categories"    This moves your thread over.

It is far better to have one thread rather than posting all over the forums and necroing older threads which refer to older versions of the software.

In the team that helps out in the NU forum we do have a Mac expert.  I have left a note for him to visit you when he returns from his short break.

Thank you for the reply Chohole and for the advice on posting.

I just found the solution ! It is very simple:

    - Go to the DAZ 3D folder in Applications

    - change the admin in that specific folder to read and write

(i was suprised that changing permissions overall won't change this, you have to actually go to that folder)

Hopefully this helps anyone else struggling with it.

warning - i'm now not sure if this method was wise. it temporarily allowed for the install but it seems like it may have created new issues with PostgreSQL

  • Does your firewall block DAZ3D?

Try disabling your firewall/antivirus for a while and try again and then allow DAZ3D to have a internet connection.

    thanks for your advice.

tried turning it off, but still getting that same message and no content.

i really want to use this program but been having so many problems just to start using it. i've never experienced such a problematic installation process for an application! is this a known issue for mac?

any other ideas how to re-establish connect and get content up ?

  • Is PostgreSQL CMS installed? You need that one.

If yes. Try uninstalling your DAZ3D and PostgreSQL and install it again with the PostgreSQL.

see devi: How far have you come with this?
I see several things that ca go wrong.
As someone else pointed out, is the CMS installed at all, and if it is, it allowed to be executed? OS X 10.12 and above have added lots of security issues which are had to find as they require a freshly installed OS X to find as as soon as you have allowed something the system (gatekeeper) will remember that.

The errors you have with tghe CMS is one of three major things.

    (1) It isn't intalled
    (2) It's installed but is not allowed to run
    (3) It's installed, can run but is not allowed to accept connections

Most of there can be solved to installing the postgres CMS again, the installer will (hopefully) set the right permissions of it if gives an error (creating a directory), create that one manually and run again.

The installed can be found here: https://www.daz3d.com/downloader/customer/files#prod_18869

Shout if you still have troubles.
