Is it possible to render only the "visible part" of the scene? (example in topic)
Hello!
I have a scene where a model is sitting behind a table. For several reasons, I needed to render the scene in two different ways:
1. only the scenario, without the model
2. only the model, but so that the parts obstructed by the objects were not rendered.
Here's an example of what I mean:

In Iray you can use Canvasses (from the Advanced tab of Render Settings) to render an object ID pass, which could be used to create a mask. In 3delight you could use pwCatch for this. You could, at least in thsi case, also just render the foreground object on its own, save as .png ot .tif, and use the alpha channel as a mask.
I use Mask and Multipass Toolbox to generate masks...

You might want to take a look at the "Matte" function of Iray as well....
