Eye Reflection issue (too white)

I'm wondering what I can do to fix the whitish reflection issue to make the eyes more realistic.

There are planes that emmit light at 6500k and a few point lights in front of the character. Also the character is Aiko 8, rendered in iray with photoreal.

Also, how can I make the iris color stand out more (more colorful)?

  • Check the Surfaces tab and look at the settings for the various eye shaders. The things you will probably want to play with to address this issue are specularity and glossiness. Reducing the specularity and increasing the glossiness might tighten up the highlights. If that doesn't work, check the eye surface shader. If there's a shader applied there, try setting the opacity to zero. It will also be worth checking the reflection channel on the various surfaces. If reflection is applied, but there's nothing interesting to reflect (for example, if you just have a wall with no interesting detail on it, you can sometimes get really dull reflections in the eyes. that make them look "hazy" like that. In that case, you can sometimes add a reflection map to produce fake reflections. Or you can just add some random objects outside of the camera view to give the eyes something interesting to work with when it comes to reflections.

To make the iris color stand out more, one trick you can do is add the texture map to the ambient channel and set the ambient color to white, and then apply just a little bit of ambient light to make it self-glowing. Don't overdo the ambient strength, though, or it will just end up looking strange.

You can, of course, also brighten up the eyes in postwork, which is what I usually do.

    Hope that helps some!

  • Is there anything in the scene to reflect?   Like a car, or tree's or something?  If not, then I suspect you need a reflection map.  I know a lot of shiney metals look really bland if there is nothing in the scene to reflect except a blank, white universe.

Yea, its pretty much an empty room built with white emmisve planes lol.

I'll try adding something around it to make some more interesting reflections.

    Thanks!
