combining two Daz objects w/ different poly count for game

edited April 2018 in New Users

Hi,

I purchased two Daz models from the same person.  My goal was to combine the two clothing items into one however they had different poly counts and different surface features too.  The surface on one item was flat while the surface on the other item had wrinkles which also skewed its verts horizontally and vertically.  I was told that it wouldnt be possible to combine them since they have different geometries but i'm using Blender to combine them.  So it is possible but what i want to know is since this is going into a game as a mod can anyone look at my technique for combining them and let me know if it will work? i only know a little bit about quads, tris, ngons and how it all relates to animations.  I know that ngons are bad so i try to avoid them.  But with tris is it still possible to have too many of them or have a poor layout of tris that it would not be good for animations?

First pictures shows how i did it.  Left side is what the typical unaltered faces looked like.  Middle and right side shows two different ways i cut the faces so that i could join the verts together.  The one on the right was usually done for long faces where a tri might be too "skinny" if i did it the middle way.  Last pictures show the actual models in Blender.

Before going too far, do bear in mind that the Genesis figures and other content from Daz cannot be used in game mods - even with an interactive license - unless it's solely for use on your own machine.

  • The mod is for myself only.  My CG pics, anims and mods aren't good enough for public release.  And since we're getting into technicalities and legalese.  It's only the clothing items and they are actually from Renderosity not the Daz store.  And the Gen 3 Female body and the gloves you see in the Blender list of objects are only placeholders.  Onces i've settled on a look for the outfit and i've perfected (as close as i can anyways) my methods then i export the body that the game uses and i fit my outfits to those.
