How to save eye color material preset from Project EYERay merchant resource

Hi all, I'm using Project EYERay (a merchant resource) to create eye colors. I'm wondering if it's possible to save a color I've built up as a material preset that doesn't refer to the EYERay files specifically. Since this product is billed as a merchant resource, I assume it's both allowed and possible.

I guess it's slightly complicated by the fact that the product uses its own UV set for the cornea, for example. It also uses OpenEXR images for some of the bump files.

Saving a material preset in the usual "Save As" way refers to these files in the product's Runtime folder, of course. Should I be doing something differently? Do you think a redistributable file is even allowed in this context? Any advice on a proper workflow for a case like this, and for other merchant resource products generally, would be greatly appreciated. I understand they're all different, with different allowances, but any suggestions would be great.

Many thanks.

  • When you build up eyes with EYERay in DS, it creates a temporary file in the user folder using the LIE system. You can either build up eyes in Photoshop in a similar manner, or you can build them in DS and then copy the temp file to a permanent directory. To see where the temp file is saved, you can click on the diffuse image in the surface settings, and then click browse. That will go to the folder the file is in. But yes, it is my understanding that the built up files can be redistributed for sale (not for freebies) and the new UV can be included with a product. You can also resize them to the base eye UV, but the limbal rings won't look as nice. The way he redid the UV on the eyes really makes them pop nicely and easy to manipulate.

Thanks for this. I thought this might be the case. I guess this implies it's not possible to save the other surfaces, like Cornea, which refer to files in the product's runtime, ie, Glossy layered weight/roughness and Base Bump. So I assume one would use the gen8 base surfaces for those.
