I will have to wait til morning becase I'm almost a hundred percent certain I will not be awake at 11:59 Daz time lol
I think Wonderland rendered Harper not me. She is lovely though!
PLEASE stay awake! LOL Midnight daz time is about 4pm for me, and it's not even noon yet, so I'm hanging out to find the answer! :)
It will be 2 AM for me! I'll try.
check out the Flash Sale if you want to get some of Ron's brushes.
The contest is over. And the winners in the "which one is barbult" contest are:
Correct number selected: @IceDragonArt - yes, I am number 23. How fortunate for you, that you were forced to select a new number! You got it right. A $5 GC code is coming your way via PM.
Best Rationale (even if the number is wrong): @jakiblue - well thought out deductive reasoning, even if one invalid assumptions led you to the wrong conclusion. Yes, I am "mature" and female. But no, I am not single; I have a husband, standing next to me at number 26. Yes, I do tend toward the stern/firm rather than silly/giddy. You wondered if I was a teacher. Well, I have a teaching degree, but I ended up in a software development career instead, through a fluke of fate. A $5 GC code is coming your way via PM.
I'm awarding a third $5 GC to @Novica for her generosity in hosting the contest and summarizing the results as we went along. That was very helpful. She buys so much to test and feature for us, I'm sure it won't take her long to put it to good use.
Thank you all for participating!
OMG are you kidding? IceDragonArt got it by changing numbers? LOL LOL LOL!!!!
And thanks for the GC, that's so sweet! And I still think my person that I chose was really rockin' the shirt they wore!
The Gift Card PMs have been sent now to IceDragonArt, jakiblue, and Novica.
That is too funny!
Thanks for the fun, @barbult. And it's nice to have a face to put with the name.
Whoa! THANK YOU Barbult!
I'm always told I overanalyze things waaaay too much and usually give too much detail in explanations - apparently it annoys people, but I shall now say I am VINDICATED!!!! mwahahahahhahaaha! I'm also laughing at myself for getting most of it right - except not knowing about a partner...and oh, getting the wrong person of course. I knew you had teacher in you!
And a big thank you to Novica for hosting hte contest here and keeping track, and CONGRATS to IceDragonArt of course!!! I don't know about you two ladies, but I know exactly what to use the GC on....some of Cake One's HDRI's are in fast grab and I've been jonesing over them for SO long. LOL. The rational sensible part of me tells me to hang on to it cos something may come up soon that I will want....but fortunately the rational sensible part of me is about 0.02% of my whole, so it won't win.
That was such a fun contest!!! We need another one!
Fun contest and you and your husband are so cute together! You almost look like brother and sister, so lucky you found your soulmate!
Thanks everyone for the Colorwerks advice. There is more in the forum "Colorwerks" if anyone else is having issues. The thing is I never had issues with the OOT shaders but I am with these. When they work with a hair, they look great, but when they don't they look way worse than the original hair so it's kind of hit and miss and probably better for giving color options with new hair than working with older hair. OOT shaders are MUCH better with older hair so I'm glad I have those, but these hopefully will look great on newer hair. The only new hair I tried it on was Lana Hair (which requires SubD and smoothing of 5 to look good) and I like the way it looks except for the thinning part and now have several suggestions for a fix.
Edit: Nothing fixed it. Tried everyone's suggestions, just going to fix it in Photoshop... Hopefully it's just an issue with Lana Hair.
I don't mean to derail this thread with personal technical issues but I'm almost too embarrassed to ask about the Windows issue in the forums and no one I know IRL is particularly tech savvy... Novica, if you prefer I put this on the main forum, please let me know, because I don't want to hog your forum....
As some of you may know, I'm a lifelong Mac person who now has a Windows 10 machine with a 1080ti.
First issue: The Daz library folder with all of its content is no longer visible on my external hard drive! I know it's there because DIM is still working and DS is working but it's not visible to me and I need access! I had to do a search for Shuttlestar to find a texture I wanted to edit in Photoshop but can't find a way to get to the main Daz library. Shuttlestar showed up in search but when I click the up button it just brings me back to the Shuttlestar search window and not up the ladder to get to textures, runtime, or Daz library. How can I make the Daz library visible again and why did it disappear??? (I was able to open the texture in Photoshop by clicking "open with" but I really would like the Daz library to be visible!)
Second issue: So now I have a 1080ti and I thought that overnight renders would now take minutes. Wrong. They are taking about 4 hours for a character, clothes and hair at 2400x1800. With CPU rendering I would bump up the time to maximum and converging at 99.8%. On the GPU I put in 99.8% converged without altering the time and it did finish in minutes but it wasn't finished or converged! So now I bump up the time, render quality and max samples to random numbers because I really don't know what they should be and the render finishes but takes several hours for what seems like a simple scene. I may be over-rendering but I want all the lighting and detail nuances to come out. What is the best combo of settings to get complete detailed renders that don't take forever? Right now I have Mousso's Harper, Lana Hair with Colorwerks, a jumpsuit, and a very small section of Kibarreto's Shuttlestar (and out of view stuff turned off) rendering at 2400x1800 and it's been over an hour and it's only at 10% and grainy. I rendered these old Kibarreto sets in Poser and remember them (and everything!) rendering really fast!
Third issue: WinZip. On a Mac you just click on a zip and it opens, totally free. Do you have to actually pay to open zips on a PC? There seem to be two versions: one for $7.99, a subscription "WinZip Universal", another for $29.99. What is the difference and do you really have to pay to open zips???
Thanks. Hopefully the responses could be helpful to others on this thread, but Novica, let me know if you would rather I move this to the Commons.
It's no problem, this thread is a hodge-podge and for getting help, there are a lot of tech saavy folks on the thread. I'm not one of them but someone can hopefully help. I'm off to get some sleep (4amish) because I have an appt tomorrow and gotta catch some z's.
Thanks. We are both late-nighters. 3:07 AM here. Off to sleep Wonderland myself. Soon...
Right-click on the file in the search results and seelct Open File Location
Windows should be able to open ZIP files as folders, though I mainly use the free 7Zip for archive management (it hads handy options to the right-click menu). Windows calls its built-in function Compressed Files and Folders.
Congratulations to the winners - especially @IceDragonArt !
@Wonderland, hope the attached word doc helps. It's a step by step on troubleshooting attached drives in windows 10. I'm assuming since you are a Mac person, that the drive is formatted for Windows? That would be my first question, but the attached is a pretty thorough step by step (with pictures)
As for zip files, windows will open them, i right click on the file and choose "open with" and choose explorer and it opens the zip. No need for an external zip opener, but like Richard, I have the free 7-zip for odd formats like .RAR files.
Oh, brilliant - nice to see 'justice' (as well as hunour!) is served with @IceDragonArt scooping the prize! :)
Nice rationale @JakiBlue
Dang those pesky arrows anyway!
Hahahaha that is too funny! What are the odds of that happening? Thank you very much, both to Barbult and also to MelanieL lol! And Novica of course for letting us play!
Congratulations Sonja and jakiblue and thanks to Novica for being the host!
That was a good idea for a contest barbult. Now we know what you look like and got to see your husband as well. But in my mind's eye, you will always be a blue parrot.
Yes, that was interesting contest having had worked in the tourism industry for over 10 years I always find tourism groups very interesting.
Thanks. I was able to open the Daz Library folder by doing another search for Shuttlestar and opening the file location but how do I get the folder to stay visible? It still doesn't show up on my hard drive, it's invisible!
If you click the View "menu" at the top of the fiel browser you will get a range of buttons - on the right there should be Show hide, try checking Hidden Items. Of course if that works the question will be why it was set to hidden.
Thanks Umi that document is great and I will save it for possible future issues with external hard drives on Windows but for now, the hard drive is working for everything else, it's just the Daz Library that disappeared and I'm hoping I don't have to wipe this 8TB hard drive and reinstall everything! DS can still find the files but the folder is invisible!
Thank you, Wonderland! We have been married for over 40 years. I guess we grew into looking alike LOL.
Someone else, years ago, thought we were a brother and sister from England. I don't know where they came up with that. We both grew up in the US midwest and have no hint of any English accent.
Thought I'd post something about Ultimate Freckles for Genesis 8 and 3 Females and Males. I've only produced a few test images with it so far, but I think it's going to be really useful. You can apply freckles evenly all over, or with more realistic variations to the head, body and lips (applied separately). There are eight different levels, from 1 (very faint) to 8 (very strong). Attached is an image of a Silver freebie called Amy (from DS Creative 13). The leftmost is the original texture, the middle has level 2 freckles applied to head and body, the rightmost has level 5. You could dive into the LIE and fine-tune the appearance of the freckles if you wanted to, but they work pretty well out of the box.
I find some models' skin just a little too perfect, so being able to add a little light freckling will be very useful. At 14 bucks, for G3F, G3M, G8F and G8M, and with 9 freebies to sweeten the deal too, what's not to like?
@Barbult Thanks for the fun competition and congratulations to the winners
That's funny! My husband and I were sitting in a bar a while back (not something we do often but occaisionally, we head out to the lakes and watch a band and hang out by the water) and some girl came up to me and asked me he was my brother. I replied with a very emphatic no! he's my husband lol.
(As her claws come out- "Get away from my man, yes, he's SPOKEN FOR!")
