through the woods- items render that aren't in viewport

in New Users
I set up my camera in "through the woods," and when I clicked render, trees and other vegetation that weren't there before suddenly appeared in the render.
What is that, and how do you turn those off, or see them in the viewport so that you can position your camera properly?
I went through a few props, checking their visible properties, and couldn't find any that were not set to visible.
Comments
As I recall Through the Woods uses instances, live duplicates of a base object, and by default those are set to be hidden until rendering (to ease the load on the system).
Thanks Richard. Where do you set that option?
It should be one of the Display options in Parameters - I can't check as a demanding render is going on.
attached are some scripts you can place in the ThroughTheWoods props folder, they will globally turn on or off all the instanced props in the scene.as Richard mentioned they are set to be invisible to ease the load on your system
There are other environments that do this as well, such as "Tangy Apple Orchard", "Harpwood Trail", "Hemlock Folly", and Tropical Pond", if I recall correctly.
Yes, it's fairly common - instances will still place a load on the preview window.
Thanks everyone for the replies, and thanks Stonemason for the script. Much appreciated. It's an incredible set.
