Martian Canals, various methods

How would you go about making models of Martian Canals, or any standard curving basin canal. The Martian Canals would have to look as if they were extending hundreds of miles into the distance. I don't want to use the boolean method if it can be avoided. Lines would be good but how do you connect straight lines with curves to make one continuous piece from scratch without having to group straight lines with curved lines later. The one piece line design could then be extruded.

Maybe start with Terra-Dome https://www.daz3d.com/terradome-3-iray and import to Hex to change
Or if you need to sculp something specific try Bryce. https://www.daz3d.com/bryce-7-pro
Henstly it is more friendly to environments than Hex.
