Hi
I felt just like creating a thread where I can post my progress as I try to create nice looking toon renders using Carrara.
here is a start

And a very nice start! Have you named your character? I love the bold, crisp features. Keep sharing!
Nah I haven't given him a name, I don't really have any plans for him for except maybe a few test renders.
Here is a new render this time using the skull crusher ogre
I've added lines to the face and a small portion of the shadowing is part of the texture.
Unlike the previous image the lines were done with Toon pro simply because a bug in Vector style 2 makes rendering animations unpredictable and I wanted to create a spin around.
update: I haven't the slightest clue why the gifs size jitters but if you open it in a new window it works the way it should.
He looks so different! Very imposing as a cartoon too. I can tell you're having FUN!

I think this is probably the process I'm going to settle on for creating my cartoon renders with Carrara. The image has been heavily post worked but Carrara helped shave off a good portion of the workload, I've tried all kinds of stuff with the toon shaders available and none can quite achieve the look I'm after so I've given up on getting great results straight out of the program.
My goal is to use Carrara to help make game sprites so assuming that I can keep focused long enough over the next few weeks I'm going to have a go at creating some game animations using this process and post the results here. The content will be a bit different though I'm thinking maybe a muscly fighting game character because I want to see if I can get that street fighter Alpha/Marvel vs Capcom kind of look.
and a step by step
1. Vectorstyle 2 export
2. Modifications using Drawplus
3. Shadows rendered with Toon Pro
4. Colour added and shadows redrawn with Anime studio
- You will probably need to click the gif to see it properly
Just a small update because it's been a little while
Today I started painting the muscle maps for my fighting character using 3d coat
I've attached a image of my progress so far to this post.
