HDRI with Water / HDRI Use?

edited June 2018 in New Users

It's not a product suggestion, so I post it here. I only recently looked at HDRI as scene/background/lighting and I'm sure I don't understand how to use them correctly, but: are there good HDRI available to put your objects into water in the foreground?

Second question: is/are there a common method, proven ways to battle the "a-bit-out-of-the-world" look objects (a whole character with feet on the ground for example) always seem to have when you position them into the HDRI scene? Or does it depend entirely on lucky circumstances in the relation picture - object (it fits or not)?

Hi friend, HDRi is mainly used for lighting purposes, many including myself have used HDRi backgrounds to illustrate scenes, or illuminate scenes using alternative backgrounds.  Best way to achieve what you desire is to find an HDRi with a decent horizon, then add water plane to scene.  Then you can place objects in water, ships, boats, etc.....

Dimension theory has a lot of fabulous HDRi's.  I use Skies of Iradience.

There is also a product I use for ocean scenes, that works really wonderful, which also can achieve what you desire to do.  I use Iray worlds in my Titanic scene.

Depends on HDRi, some work with no adjustments, while others figure/object placement can be a bit tricky, and sometimes takes experimentation, adjusting figure/object placement in render settings environment parameters.  Well friend, best way to learn is experiment, ask questions, good luck, have fun.
