A Dog and His Boy

I am trying to make the boy's face the focal point by making it "shine". Suggestions and criticisms welcome.

I'm no expert at this but I feel that it might be a bit too much in shadow right now, the easy way to change that would be to point a low level spotlight at it, though there are probably better ways.

Also he doesn't look to have any neck, is the dog overlapping with it?

It has the typical problem of indoor lighting and there is not really a lot you can do about it except have the dog approach from the side and not over the boy so that it casts shadows on the boy's face. And i'd expect mor of a yuck wrinkled nose face from the boy. Like having dogs as pets or not, they stink.

  • Thanks for the advice. I did try working with the spotlights with no effect in the renders. I can see how the dog is creating shadows. I may have to try the concept in an outside environment or try moving the props out of the Boysroom and into photostudio. I noticed the neck too. The boy's head is slouched forward. The pose on the dog and boy need work as does the expression.

I will keep up work on it and eventually see what the end will produce but keep on with the suggestions in the meantime.
