WetFX Decal Users, just a question

How difficult is it to position the decal on specific body parts? For instance, if I wanted a character to fall down and his hand lands in a puddle of slime, can I do that? So that only the hand has slime on it? From the pictures on the product page this seems possible but I just wanted to check first. My hesitation is based on the understanding that this product will affect a total surface so what gets applied to the hand will be applied to the entire body. I hope I have that wrong because this is a great product and could be a lot of fun in renders. Anyone who has worked with it before, your input would be great!

If it works the same as the vendor's Iray Wound Kit: yes. And I would imagine it works the same.

The decals are applied through single decal boxes, so you can arrange them wherever you like on the object. so it's very easy to have one hand covered, and the other not covered.

Here, I just covered the one hand with soap, and gave it a different colour for visibility. In the screnshot, you can see the decal box around her hand. It's not difficult to place it, once you know at which side of the decal box the decals show up.

Does it automatically countour to the hand? I'm sorry, this would really be my first time working with decals.

If you're referencing the cut-off on the side of the hand, it's just because the decal is projecting from a different angle than the camera. Remember, it's a projector, it's projecting a texture onto a surface, not to dissimilar to a movie projector. If you shine a projector onto a surface from a different angle than you are currently looking, you'll see edges or warping around corners. You simply rotate the decal projector so it's projecting from your point of view.

Yes, it is kind of like a projection of light. Very similar as if you'd use a film projector to cast an image in a wall. You can try decals for free, they are part of Studio, if you just want to test them out. Here's a quick tutorial: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/75203/wtut-decal-will-s-iray-decal-tutorial/p1

Thank you so much BeeMKay! I had no idea that this stuff existed. And that tutorial is a great jumping off point. I'm starting to get the hang of it already!
