What should I get first?

I'm starting to feel comfortable with how DAZ Studio works and now I feel like taking a step further and try to make some good looking images. Since I'm going to need stuff from the shop I was wondering what you think every new user should get first, is there something you feel is essential to making good images?

What genres are you interested in?

I'm perfectly fine with fantasy and sci-fi though right now I would like to try and create image sets with a "photoshoot" kinda vibe, modern setting

First of all, settle on a character generation. G8 is the current installment; G3 is older and on sale more often, and also has mostly Iray skins. G3 also can take most of G8 clothing. The thing is, if you start using different generations, this can get very expensive and frustrating, because G2 and older don't have Iray materials and need conversion. Also, the poses are very different, as well as the skins are not easily transferred to the G3+ generation, and the other way around.

Decide on a few base models - depending on what is your taste. Depending on the generation you chose, there are morph packs that are recommended.

Poses - you can either manually pose your characters, or use poses from the store or elsewhere.

Lights - there are several sets in the story that are real helpes, but I can only recommend that you learn lighting.

Also, a recommendation/suggestion is that you take part in the New use contests: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/categories/new-user-contests-and-events

They are not as much about winning, but learning, and you'll find a lot of useful informations and help in the threads there.

PC+-membership is agood suggestion; it gives you access to weekly freebies, and reduced price items. You also get 30% off of DAZ Originals, and it comes with two coupons. https://www.daz3d.com/platinum-club-plus

Places... that depends a lot on what exactly is in your mind. There are some pretty versatile sets in the story for interiors and exteriors.

I'm a n00b myself. As far as I can see, face and body morphs are the most important, as well as a few versatile haircuts. Plenty of clothes, props, and settings can be found for free. But characters and decent hair seems to be very rare on the freebie sites.
