Overlapping priority

I've got 2 overlapping planes, is there a way to apply priorities to them or otherwise choose which one will be rendered in the overlap area?

Order towards the camera - who comes first, serves first, so the plane closer to the camera will render first, covering/casting a shadow on the second plane..

Depending on what your desired effect is, that is not always what you beed, though.

Yeah, I figured moving the desired plane a bit up on the Y coord will make it visible over the other plane, but the problem is it casts shadow xD And since you can't stop objects from casting shadows in Iray I decided to ask if there was another way to choose which one will be visible.

Edit. Moving it up for 0.05 of whatever Y coord is measured in makes it visible while NEARLY casting no shadow at all. But it still bugs me, OCD kicks in.
