DAZ 2.3 - Content issues

Hi folks -

Yes, I do still use DAZ 2.3. I like this version the best. Anyway - I purchased a new computer not too long ago and I had to install my DAZ studio. Got most of my content installed, too. When I boot up my DAZ, I did the search for new content directories and it got all of that done without an issue. However, if I click on the Content tab, there's nothing there. It asks me if I want to search for the directories again. I have no idea what the issue is so any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I don't remember exactly how DS2.3 worked now, as it is several years since I had it on my PC.

You will probably need to go to Edit > Preferences, and add the location (path) of your content library there. It should be called 'content' if you have used the defaults, and that folder should also hold a folder called 'runtime' for Poser content.

If you are not sure what to do, please post a screenshot of your Preferences showing the paths to your content, and we will be able to help you further.

Edit>Preferences>Directories, click Add... and select teh folder that your content is installed to.

Make sure you add both DAZ format and Poser format directories.

Yes, as Adam says - click at the top where it says DAZ Studio Content Directories to switch to the Poser list.

Thank you for the replies everyone. I did that through the preferences and I have the DAZ and Poser content directory paths set correctly in there. Now, if I view my preferences - directories, everything shows up fine in there like it should. But when I click the content tab to begin working to create a scene, nothing is there. Here are a couple of screen shots.

    Try re-importing your metadata

    It is DS2.3 Frank.

    @MydnyteSyn

Are you sure that there is content in these locations to start with? What OS are you using? If it is Windows Vista or Win7/8, then you cannot store content in the Program Files (x86) area.

Chances are that your looking at the stupid Content Manager, in DS2 it was the default way to view the Content Library tab, use the options menu (top right of the tab) to change it from categories.

LOL looks like Frank is still asleep.

Oh wow I completely missed that. Needs more coffee. I didn't think there was anyone left out there using 2. I guess I was wrong. I know we still use 3.5 along with 4.6 so we can do our mats for both versions.

Thanks! I see my content now.

I'm running Windows 7/64-bit. I can see the content from the Program Files (x86)/DAZ 3D directory. Do I have to now copy everything from there and put it into the Program Files/DAZ 3D directory?

Both Program File (x86) for 32 bit programs, and Program Files, for 64 bit programs, are a protected area in Win7.

It is not a good idea to keep content in there as it can lead to problems. This has nothing to do with DAZ 3D, but it was introduced by Microsoft with Vista, so it has been around for some time now.. You should not keep user content in either program Files area, Documents is the usual place to store user content.

So I need to not only remove all of the DAZ, DAZ 3D, Curious Labs directories from both of these locations, I need to put them in the Documents directory? So will I then have to also uninstall then re-install my software? If so, where should I install it to?

Just MOVE the content folders and then point DS to the new location. No need to Install or Un-install anything.
