Lights for CryoTube

I purchased this product:
https://www.daz3d.com/cryotube-259
I always have problems to activate the lights. I go to the surface, but I do not know how to activate them and illuminate the object cipiglio

Before anything else... the product is for 3Delight. Are you trying to render in 3Delight, or in Iray? 3Delight lights and emissive surface materials don't work in Iray, and need to be converted to Iray.

EDIT: Turned out that I have that product... This is for Iray, based on a simple conversion to IrayUber.

The image shows the tube in Scene Only light, with the lights marked to the left, and what settings I ued. I basically cranked up the lumiance to 5000and switched from cd/m² to kcd/m².

Rule of thumb: When it has "light" in the surface name, chances are that you can use this for a mesh light.

Ah... See my changed post above. When you buy a product, and it doesn't say anything about "Iray Materials", it is pretty certain that they are 3Delight materials, or even Poser materials with very old products. That means that the surface might not work as expected in Iray. You usually need some sort of conversion.

You can do that manually, or use a product like https://www.daz3d.com/rssy-3delight-to-iray-converter

You always need a conversion for glowing/light surfaces, monitors and stuff. Like I wrote, they don't really work with Iray.

  • So lucky!!! just that I do not see your parameters by selecting all the lights panels cipiglio

Er... you need to convert the surface to Iray. What you see is the 3Delight surface material.

Have you converted from 3DL to Iray before?

There's two ways. You can either use the converter mentioned above.

Or you can select the item in the scene tab, then in the surface tab select ALL surfaces (or, minimum the onesd you want o convert because of light), and apply the Iray uber shader. Here's where you can find it:

EDIT: Here are two older tutorials I did from last year about conversion for skin and clothing:

That's because you just did a simple conversion. As I said, the material was meant for 3Delight, and everything is finetuned for that different render engine. To reduce the brightness, the easiest way is to insert some grey tone to the base colour.

  • Ok, I managed to darken a bit. But I messed with glass. I wanted to remove the opacity to make it more transparent to show inside the character, but look what a mess I made ...pianto

    Fishtank! laugh

    Sorry, I fell asleep...

There are different types of glass. Did you use one of the presets of DAZ-ueber?

If yes, use the Glass-Thin-Clear instead of the "solid" version.

  • Thanks BeeKay, you have been very kind and helpful. Since I discovered DAZ3D I fell in love with this program but I still have to understand how to do some things and where to find them to modify them. Thank you and have a good rest smiley
