Browsing through some old file lists I found these two items that I never used (as usual) and I would like to know if they are obsolete now. They are Carrara Skies Lightdomes by Tim Payne and the GI Dome 1.

If they are not obsolete what can be done with them in Carrara.

sure - never obsolute - from memory the Tim Payne comes with good documentation - otherwise I wouldn't be able to use it :)

  •  It looks as if it is an hdri set.

  • They might be under scene presets such as skies or something.

  • I can't seem to find time to start rendering full scene images in Carrara so that I can try out different lighting arrangements, and so forth. The Halloween season is approaching so I will use that as motivation to get my "nose to the grindstone" as the British say. We Yanks would say something like, "time to get my ass in gear."

I already have plans for a Halloween animation using those "tumbleweeds", and an assortment of strange characters. A giant leap from Cryll and the Saguro cactus mini-animation.

I use Tim Paynes Lightdomes and Skies all the time, let me know if you want a mini-tutorial to walk you through using it, found the documentation very good.

Don't have the GI Domes but have eyed them off as an extra tool for Carrara, they look useful in the promo, always love GKDantas work.

  • Bunyip02 , Thanks for the info.

I downloaded a ton of Carrara video tutorials over the last year, and one of them is titled, "Using GDome Ultimate HDRI pack" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Q-xqMh1zy8

I watched it once, and will watch it again today.

rk66  I found that out too. I did a search for Tim Payne's Skydomes 1 and 2 and he seems to be history.

My GI Dome is not the HDRI version, but the GI Dome 2 set with HDRI is still selling in the store for a reasonable price.

I have a collection of free HDRI images that I collected for Bryce, and I can use them in Carrara too, and a few purchsed Bryce Brinnen/Horo packages that have HDRI images included.

So Louvre, here comes Tim, Hah, ha

  • yes this PA sale they are probably going to cull most of the rest of the Carrara only artists as sales pale compared to the DAZ studio stuff,
