Draw on Faces, or use a Cut Tool

I want to be able to draw on a Face and knock that piece out to create a hole of any shape.
Or maybe just move that area in or out, like an extrude ...
I think Sketch does something similar by example.

Possible?

How can I do that?

Hope the answer is NOT Boolean :-(

Polygon modellers like hex make this difficult. While nurbs CAD packages do this stuff with ease. Sketchup does it easy as well.

To draw on a face, turn on face snapping.
Hold the shift key and draw curves onto a mesh. Keep holding the shift key for each point added.

To create a hole. Create another mesh the shape of your hole, and make it self intersect the mesh you wish to cut the hole into.
Use the Free Tessalate tool (X key) to cut around the hole mesh. You can then delete the polys inside to create the hole or select them and extrude.

You can also cut holes with using a circle line and boolean tool and clean up verts afterwards by welding. This is normal in all 3D polygon modelling packages.

    Thank you ausair,

Do you think there is a video that I can watch of these tools being used or demonstrated ?
