Help with THE ULTIMATE MERCHANT RESOURCE KIT FOR GENESIS 2 FEMALES

XfitzXfitz Posts: 96

I purchased the product listed in the title. I have a few issues. [1] I can't find it altho the IM says it downloaded. [2] The new IM system for downloading products no longer grants the option to review the README file so I do not know how to find out how to use this product. [3] The DAZ product page does not seem to give me an option to contact the vendor (Forbiddenwhispers) for help with their product.

Can anyone help with any of these?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    Here's a link to the readme: http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/17108/start

You should be able to view the readme in DIM by clicking on the i icon with the circle around it that appears on each item.

I also bought it and WTF! No readme, howto or anything, some images files and thats all. Not even the default values to use with the textures. :(

There are files within their names SSS but how to use them ? They are for poser or for DS ?

Really not the best Merchant Texture file I bought. I think it's even the worst on the included support. >:-(

@ForbiddenWhispers: Could you write a readme with more in it than what's in http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/17108/start so we can use your product and I hope tell in the future that it is good. I'd like to not have to request for order cancellation.

    Thanks

That's why it's called a Merchant Resource Texture Kit. A texture resource for a merchants to modify and produce their own saleable character products. It's clearly stated in the product description and what's included. You should return it and focus on character products.

Resource kits are for users to use as a BASE only to make new files, in this case textures, for sale or free use once enough modification has been done by the end user. They are not pre-made ready to use texture sets to be loaded on figures. If you are not a G2F texture artist the files in this package are probably not of much use to you. If you are looking to get started then this set is a place to start and learn as you go.

I know What a Texture kit is so STOP talking to me like I don't know.

And the point of a kit is not to do all yourself....

    @Jaderail: Thanks for your answer.
But to start you need a beginning: at least filename that are clear (like I said before SSS for what software?)
I thought yes a kit for G2F I will have all bases to do a texture like Bree, and ... nope, I got files, not even the same kind of files for all body parts (no displacement for the inner mouth), for the eyebrows there is a psd with a face background, you don't know if it's a bump or something else, like I said the SSS surely for poser but I have to know, i'm a genius that I bought the do it yourself stuff. And I can go on, so yes usually a Texture kit is a beginning but sometimes PA gives best render values or settings, and coherent files for all body parts. So yes I'd like a readme / howto to know what the files are supposed to be used with.

    @Lindsey:

    Let me check my packages...

Victoria 6 Merchant Essentials Eyes and Makeup
Light Skin Merchant Resource for V4/Genesis/V5
    Mystikels Eyes - Merchant Resource
    Biscuits Skin Merchant Resource
    PD Eyes MR
    ML_Fantasy Eyes
    RM True2Life Eyes
    Sabby-EyesFX2
    Sabby-EyesFX3
    Sabby-EyesFX_V4
    Rebelious Lash MR V1
    Rebelious V4 Lips 1 MR
Rebelious V4 Make up 2 MR
    MR2 (A4 V4 M4 Merchants Resource 2)

SO I think I know what I buy!

your answer looks like you read my first sentence and stop there.

So Let me talk with the PA and forget me if you have no real answers, thank you!

I don't have the product, but It's probably safe to assume that all of the maps are geared towards usage in Daz Studio since it's for G2F. The PSD layers are brow shaping/makeup and not for bump/disp/etc. You'd probably have to create your own bump/disp/trans/etc for the brows.

I know what you're talking about w/ the settings, etc. Most of the MR's I've bought (or even free ones I've downloaded) come with mat presets to get a general idea of the best settings for each surface zone. What you can do, is load each of the maps into the respective surfaces and then ctrl+click on another character mat that you like the settings for. Select Ignore Maps on the popup and you'll get the shader from the other character but the maps from the MR.

This is assuming you're using DS. I use both Poser and DS, but I haven't figured out of there's an easy way to use the maps of one char with the shader settings of another in Poser.

The What's Included tab on the product page also shows everything in the package.

Ultimate Merchant Resource Kit for Genesis 2 Female(s):
Created for use on the "Base Female" UV Set
    1 Set of Skin Texture Maps (4096 x 4096)
    1 Set of Skin Bump Maps (4096 x 4096)
    1 Set of Skin Displacement Maps (4096 x 4096)
    1 Set of Skin Sub-Surface Scatter Maps (4096 x 4096)
    3 Eye Texture Maps (4096 x 4096)
    Blue
    Brown
    Gold
    1 Eye Bump Map (4096 x 4096)
    3 Eyelash Transparency Maps (4096 x 4096)
    4 Cornea Reflection Maps (3000 x 3000)
    3 Inner Mouth Texture Maps (2000 x 2000)
    Healthy
    Food & Smoke Stained
    Diseased & Rotten
    1 Inner Mouth Bump Map (2000 x 2000)
    1 Inner Mouth Normal Map (2000 x 2000)
    Additional Makeup Files:
Available in .PSD for PhotoshopCS and .PNG Formats.
    4 Eyebrows
    7 Eyeshadows
    2 Eyeliners
    4 Blushes
    4 Lips

As far as you saying that there's no how-to, it's probably assuming that the buyer already knows what an MR is and how to use one.

My post was a general for all post and not aimed at any one user. The fact the kit is designed for G2F Base Female and sold at DAZ 3D the SSS files tell me they are for the Free AoA SubSurface Shader that DAZ Studio now has. I do not believe anything in the package was designed with any use other than DAZ Studio by the PA. Only the PA can speak to that. I see nothing in the info claiming to be for use in Poser.

EDIT: The fact the Published Artist assumed the buyer understood the use of the set is also a item that only the PA can address.

    Thanks Vaskania and Jaderail.

@Vaskania: I tried poser and ... I am not compatible :p , so yes I'm a DS and Carrara user.

Now I have to hope the PA will help a little...

You're on your own with Cararra as far as the tips I mentioned. I've never used Cararra a day in my life. I don't even own it. lol

Looking at the previews, the SSS maps appear to be greyscale so they are strength maps and should be usable in whatever application you want, though the way they are used may vary. The only things that would be application-dependent are the normal maps, since there are different ways of storing normals (though most applications, I would imagine, will let you specify whether they are tangent or object space normals).

Is this something that can be determined just by looking at the maps? Since there doesn't appear to be any info with the product, how would someone know whether the maps are tangent or object space?

Sorry for the late reply. I didn't even see this message on the forum until somebody sent me too it via rendo. I've been away from the PC these past few days looking at houses. If any customers need to contact me you can do it on this forum too. I always get PMs here as I get an email to tell me. So I'm more likely to see it if you contact me via the DAZ forum.

This resource has been made with experienced DS character creators in mind. It's not for Poser as it's for Genesis2F, and based on her UVs.

If customers want a step by step look into how to make characters and the settings, then maybe this is something I could look into doing? But as it stands, this product is not a tutorial. It has been created for users with knowledge of character creation. If it was included with base merchant skin settings for either program I'd have said so.

Is a tutorial something people would even be interested in? I could write one for both programs. I have written tutorials on lighting for DS and Poser in the past. So I could do that for character creation with the settings involved. With a step by step guide on how we do things in regards to bump maps, displacements, normal maps and so forth. But this would have to be a completely different product.

The SSS files are for use in poser and DS. With my characters, I use the SSS maps for DS with the Subsurface Shader Base by AoA, along with the Normal Maps. In Poser I use the same SSS mats for the skin shader in there, but I use displacement maps instead of normals. I use the SSS maps to help with the specular (highlights) allocation and strength instead of using the dial settings in the program.

Eyebrow bump details and SSS details are not included as people may wish to use their own eyebrows in place of the ones in the package. I did this for ease of use so people didn't have to clone out unwanted eyebrow details.

If you need some help learning how to make skin in poser or ds. Feel free to PM me any time. There are lots and lots of tutorials online. (see below)

I'm very late to the party on this thread, but I concur. A tutorial on character creation would be awesome. I'm in love with your resources...they're awesome.

I'd really love to see a good tutorial on character and texture creation from a real texture artist! I won't list any products, but a recent tutorial on female character creation really left a lot to be desired.

    Hi everyone

I don't know if this can be useful to any of you but here comes a tutorial i made some time ago (ok 2002.... but the process is still the same).

As i changed my website since, the tutorial was lost, and reading this thread, i tried to search for it and i found it back on an old hard drive and made a pdf of the old html.

So I uploaded it to Dropbox and here is the link :

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/fx2z6g78gr0iawc/CakeOneFaceTutorial.pdf

It's the basic of creation so it may not be usefull for most of you , but if it may help some, it's worth the shot :)

    C.
