First episode in my new series, Jiang Hu!

Hi! So for fifteen years I've been creating a cinematic world but never was able to get the money to make it, then last December I thought why not see if I can animated it and then I'd be able to do anything I wanted. So for the past year I've been learning 3D animation and the like through Daz 3D and yesterday I uploaded my first episode. A little background of me and how this became. Twenty five years ago my mom took me to see Rumble in the Bronx when it was in theaters, the movie ended and we walked out of the cinema and into Suncoast Video where I bought anything I could find they had with Jackie Chan, then later Jet Li, John Woo, Wong Kar-Wai and within ten years my DVD shelf had about a thousand movies from Hong Kong and it's what I love most. My dream has been to make films in Hong Kong and this series is my love letter to the kinds of films I love most. John Wok's the Killer is what made me decide to become a filmmaker. Last year I got to actually direct a Chinese co-production in China, I'm heading back there actually next Friday to do the ADR! But that's a room com and this series is the farthest from that. This takes place in the underworld, the world of Jiang Hu, and if you take the time to view it, I hope you enjoy it. Its animated in Daz 3D and rendered completely in Iray. So far I already have three minutes rendered out for episode 2, my hope is to get this coming out bi-monthly and one day monthly. Thank you for your time. Oh and this would be rated R, or CAT III if you're a fan of HK cinema.

  • That was epic in scope,  with some great visual influences for Classic HongKong movies.  I liked how you merged the softer gentler memories with the violent present day.  Definitely would watch another one in the series.

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to watch it and for the kind words, it really means a lot :) I'm so happy you were able to see the influence from classic HK films. I'll post episode 2 here when it's complete! I'm going to Beijing next weekend for a different project and will be seeing the actress, so we're going to record the audio for the next few episodes.

  • it was very well done yes

    Fantastic start!

At some situations I would think you could let the camera rest a tad longer, but then I'm not trained at making movies in any way

  • Thank you watching Linwelly! You know, it's fascinating to me as one comment on the live action movies I've made in the past is I let shots linger than I should, so this time I thought I'd make things a little more snappy and I'm getting the opposite note now. There's a balance somewhere, I know it. Thank you for your thoughts and I hope you come back and check out episode 2 when it's completed. smiley

This is really well done, the sound design is really professional, the story telling is gripping, and the cinematography is on point. Rendering is the most resource intensive but you make the most of it. Well done!

You did a good job on casting the narration,  her voice over work added to the emotional connection with the audience. .
