From Maya to Carrara

I know that it sounds strange, but since I changed from Maya to Carrara I am able to create better renderings.
Learning Mayas "Mental Ray" is a nightmare! In Carrara I just make change some shader settings and voilá! It looks good.
Moreover, I am really happy with the compatibility with Genesis. Animating figures with the AniMate-plugin as a NLA
Anyone else else had a "downgrade" like this? 3DsMax to Carrara, etc...?

I've never owned 3ds max or Maya, but I learned stuff on them before coming to Carrara. Two fellows that were teaching me 3d owned them and I would play.
But I actually don't even have the urge to try them anymore. Before I even bought Carrara, I had a strong feeling that it was better suited to what I wanted to do - and, lucky me, it costs a fraction of either.
You mention liking the ability to work with Genesis, me too... totally!
But even before then, I really like how normal it is to work with DAZ content in Carrara.
Happened many years ago - but I went from C4D XL to Carrara (C3). I could get renders that were just as good (or better) out of Carrara, and the cost of upgrading from C4D V6 to V8 (missed the V7 upgrade) was way to steep. I really liked to model in C4D (and did so for several years), but for other things Carrara was much easier to use, and I preferred the renders I got from Carrara.
The pricing of the other commercial options is just to steep compared to Carrara, and the additional complexity really makes them less appealing. If I went to another software for additional functionality it would probably be Blender. It offers a lot of the tools the big boys have, probably has an equivalent learning curve, and is very affordable. Too bad there isn't an easy way to get content into Blender ;-) it would make a great companion tool
I used to use Lightwave many years ago, then went through a phase of using Poser (and then Vue) to get the results I wanted, before discovering Carrara, which gives the best of all worlds in one package!
