Scene Panel Problem with Selection

in Technical Help (nuts n bolts)

Suddenly, in the scene pane, I cannot select and move an object, such as dragging that object on top of another object to child it to said object. I go to drag the object but only selects the next object up as if I am pressing the shift key,.So no dragging and dropping within the Scene Pane. What do I do?

    I realize this is 4 years old, but I just ran into this problem and the only solution I have found is to save the scene, kill the app and reload everything. Annoying as hell, considering how horribly slow even a modest scene loads, even on an SSD.
