Homage to Sasquatch (Big Foot from my background)

Homage to Sasquatch.

I like a lot of characters but I tend to lean toward the unusual, the off the wall, out of the box ones. Whether real or fantasy, I have a long history with Sasquatch or Big Foot as I call him from nightmares as a child to curiousness and fascination now. So when I saw the Sasquatch in the Daz store for the first time, I immediately fell in love with it and it was an instant, no-brainer purchase. It took all of about 2 seconds to make it into my cart.

As with all of my renders, I try and learn something new or try something different with each one. I tend to think in the terms of series versus single shot renders. In my renders, there are lots of mistakes and I make no effort to go back and correct them once I'm "finished". I just try and learn and make the next one better than the one before.

With the Sasquatch series, two things came to mind. One, I saw a post on Facebook with a picture of a Sasquatch and the caption was something like "Big Foot - Reigning Hide and Seek World Champion". Because of the elusive nature, the phrase that came to mind for me was "hiding in plain sight". And I also thought of Forrest Gump. Who for a plain guy was in so many unique situations.

So my Big Foot render series was born. The goal was to place him in as many different situations as I could while trying to learn as much as I could about 3d Art in general. Maybe one or two of these have been seen on the forum. And only friends see them on my Facebook page except for a few that might would start a word war which is not worth getting into. I'm not a drama person. Or as they say, I'm a lover not a fighter.

Disclaimer:

I'm no artist and don't try to pretend that I am. I just like 3d Art and the potential worlds it can create. I have an active imagination and it has helped me a number of times to deal with and get through some hard situations in life. It helps me to zone out and look beyond stressful events that I have no control over.

It is not my intention to EVER offend anyone. The pictures I create have been merely for my enjoyment, my learning, and my growth in the 3d world. The renders I create are not meant to make a statement or imply anything at all. They are just renders and nothing more.

Hope you enjoy them! Help and suggestions are always welcome.

As always, thank you for your time and consideration.

This was my first picture. The goal was to pick a background that went with the character. I think I did ok in that department. One of the goofs I noticed is I didn't have his feet planted firmly on the ground. Oh well, I didn't think about the "gravity" of the situation at the time.

    For picture number two:

    New things to try:

    Reflection in his sunglasses
    Spa water

    Goofs:

Poke through on his board shorts (shorts from M4)
White outlines around the trees (couldn't figure out how to get rid of the glow)

Poke through notes: The Sasquatch character that I used uses the LAMH product which does have different zones to turn off. But when I turn off the hair in places sometimes it turns off more than what I want. And there are a few issues that I've encountered with LAMH which I have reported. I'm currently working around some issues until they are released.

    For picture number three:

    New things to try:

    Reflection in back window
Lighting - eventually changed shirt textures and toned down lighting so jeans wasn't so whitewashed.

    Goofs:

Poke through on cap, around sleeves, and shoulder

Over all, one of my favorites from the series.

    For picture number four:

    New things to try:

    Lighting - indoor

    Goofs:

Poke through on cap, socks, and forearms.

Now I realize these clothes were not made for a such a huge figure, but I try to think out of the box and don't believe in "limitations". A limitation is merely an invitation to try something new and different.

I had a really hard time with trying to get it to work and nothing was really working. I posted a question and learned about the "Apply Push Modifier". I believe that is the correct setting. Still, it didn't work as much as I would have liked. I ended up working with the poke through the best I could and resulted in hiding parts. I also altered the angle so the hidden parts wouldn't be as obvious. You can really see the problem when you look at his wrist which isn't there. It's noticeable. Over all, I liked how it came out.

Thank you whispers65 for sharing these renders and your story. The first image shows how unique he is, the others are a lot of fun and a great way to play with different aspects of his personality and different scenes. Also quite different lighting challenges for each, but all of them work.

Looking forward to seeing more from this series!

Thanks. I know they aren't the greatest of renders but they are fun for me to make.

    For picture number 6:

    New things to try:

    Lighting
    Background Image

    Goofs:

Couldn't get LAMH to stay working but figured when you go into the Army or anything that you get your hair cut so I thought without the long hair it was good enough.

    Pokethrough on Pants.

    For picture number five:

    New things to try:

    Lighting - Indoor
Changed coloring from red to mainly blue

    Goofs:

Big Foots arm is going into his knee.
The two guys are too glossy for my taste. Couldn't figure out how to one their skin tone down.

    For picture number 9:

    New things to try:

    Lighting - indoor
    Fun Clown Outfit

    Goofs:

Lighting made everything look flat. I added the sun shining in but didn't think it worked great.

The challenge was the kids. I only had Teens and up so I took the teens and shrunk and then cute-ized them.

    New things to try:

    Lighting
    Pose
    Different Genre

    Goofs:

There's probably something I'm not seeing but this is one of my favorites. The only challenge was that he is so very big I had to pose him mostly below the kids so he'd be in line with their height.

    For picture number 13:

    New things to try:

    Lighting - indoor
    Comic Bubbles

    Goofs:

No shirt. I lost the main file so I just took the picture and comic bubbles on it.

He does have hair this time but that was a challenge. When I load him with LAMH, at first the hair would transfer to one of the kids lol. Another time everyone's hair flew up into the air. It was a real challenge just to get this scene finished as far as it is lol.

    Mood
    Advanced Ambient Light
    Made the windows more prominent

    Goofs:

Not as lit as well as I would have liked but over all one of my favorites.

I love your vision, whispers! Very imaginative work with all your renders.

If I could offer just one humble suggestion that could make him "pop" a little more, add a back light to the scene. Especially in the goth render and the monk (#14). Give him a little silhouette and I bet you'll like them even more.

I would LOVE to see the goth render with a touch of back light to separate Bigfoot and the kids from the background. I know you said you don't generally go back and re-work your previous scenes, but hey, wishful thinking never hurt anyone, right? :)

(and not to be nitpicky, but there is some poke-through near the left pocket of the girl on the right in the goth scene :) )

Thank you for your suggestions. I'll will try and see if I can. The main problem I have is even though I've done all of these in the last several months, I've lost the main files so in most cases I'd have to try and reproduce the scene. But I'd always like to make the images better. A lot of mine seem really flat.

The Classroom scene really made me smile. The expressions and poses added so much. You have a way with storytelling and setting a scene in general.

Great perspective in the martial arts one, I felt that kick!

I'm a new fan of RawArt, his characters have so much personality just waiting to be unleashed.

I really love RawArt's characters. I have quite a few already with several more on my wishlist. :)
