wondering how much of a performance boost would be over an 8 core?
i need a dedicated online pc for gaming.
can' t decide if i should get a cheap i5, or replace the 8 core with a thread ripper and game on the 8.
threadripper will take an extra couple months to get. but is it worth it? cores don't seem to speed up light calculations
doh, the indecisions.
the waiting is the hardest part

clockspeed is the single most important factor
otherwise something like Octane render and a decent video card
thanks. I'm not doing octane or vray, or iray.
i need ultimate speed for rendering frames.
not sure another 8 cores will be worth the $$ impact.
the game i want to play recommends geforce 750, is in my price range.
some things don't need a fresh radiance map for every frame.
like close ups on facial animation. one radiance map for blinks or kisses saves on render time.
my rule of thumb is if it doesn't need to cast a new shadow, render with same map.
Prolly needs high powered power supply.
The cases they put the threadripper in are bedazzlers. Chandeliers of cases Just want plain desktop.
they dont offer barebones no moars?
I would love to hear someone's experience using a Threadripper with Carrara.
To me, the best plan is to go to a local computer repair place that you trust. Ask them how much they would charge you to assemble a machine (you buy the parts and they assemble it). My local guy charges $90 to assemble your computer. He also advises me on the best parts to buy, based on my needs. I then shop around and find the best prices on those parts. If you want a bare-bones case, then that is what you choose and pay for.
