Soooo frustrating... not able to comment on comments in gallery

I would like to thank people who comment an critique my pictures, directly, so they can read them. As far as I know it’s not possible (please correct me if I’m wrong).

it would be great to comment and the person could be notified.

You could comment on your own picture, though the person you commented/thanked won't get a notification and will only see it if they return to the pic. I tend to try to thank those commenting,  answer a question, or tell more about the pic, in the comment below the one/ones who has said something. Think that's the only thing we can do for now, I do agree though that it would be nice to directly respond to a comment that has been made and that the person were notified :)

  • I think it would be nice to know when someone comments, as well - unless you go look at each image periodically, how would you even know?

  • I agree in this case.

sometimes it's hard/impossible to find the one who commented here in the forum to give him a private message.

@Misselthwaite, it must be somewhere in the settings. When someone comments on a pic in my Gallery i receice an e-mail.

Exactly what I want to do...

I absolutely and thoroughly do not want this. If an artist has a substantive comment about something I said, or is answering a question, that would be fine, but I do not want or need to be thanked for commenting on an image.

But how could that person would know that you would like to ask him? Not only to thank. Also for critiques and suggestions. IMHO it would be a benefit for the community.

    Same here.

ETA: actually there is an option under Gallery settings "Allow comment emails".

I always thank commenters or answer questions out of politeness, I don't expect them to comment to my reply comment. They don't get notice anyway and the content in the gallery moves too fast to expect someone browsing the gallery to spend too much time in the comments section.

I'm a lurker & I am guilty of not always commenting .  I browse the galleys to see what others are doing . I do mostly animation with daz studio  and I get my inspiration sometimes from other peoples images.

If you reply to someone in the forums using @usernames  the forum picks up the username as a keyword and will notify you in your in box

So you can see if someone has mentioned your username name or reply to you in a forum thread by looking at your inbox . found by clicking the little gear thingy on top of the forum so yes you can know that way if someone has replied to you in any given thread,. But it will not tell you how many people are watching your comment . there is no counter for that

also you should get a email notice in your email if someone has commented on your art in the gallery section . but you won't get that notice in the forums setting make sure you have notices turned on under your Daz Account settings to recieve emails notices

    I hope that helps

here is example .. sorry diva ..lol

  • I'm not chatty, but once someone asked about how I did something in a picture, and even though I did notice in the comments and provided a rudimentary answer, I don't know if they checked back and saw it... I only mourn the loss of opportunity to share techniques :-)

I assume the dysfunctional gallery system is part of the reason for people to have their own art threads - so they can get feedback and share details, etc.?

Think so... until we get a new community software we have to live with it. frown

  • that's why i prefer leaving comments in the artists threads. but it's hard to keep track of them as they change so quickly.

  • Surely not every artist has a thread???  It seems a little impractical for an occasional comment warranting conversation...

Not everyone do have a thread, I used to have one but ended up forgetting about it after a while, haven't used it for a Loooooong time now. Though I am considering starting one anew, since most of my pics tend to be drawned withing a couple of hours and never be seen, due to the timezone I live in. Haven't made up my mind yet though :)

Think I’m starting a thread in the art section, so it’s easier to comment and re-comment and discuss - that is more fun wink... but what name? Mmmmmmh...

  • I would like more constructive commentary, but a thread seems a bit much.  I am insignificant - how would anyone find me, anyway? :-D  Think I'll stick to the Other Place (TM), much simpler structure.

If you start a thread, Lothar, I will follow it, though :-)  Post it here, so we can all find it!
