Love that chinese KFC sign. The problem with Chinese is...you never really know what "it" or "they" are saying. It could be anything...lol.

Usually those characters are more than one word, they are an expression or a concept or a phrase. So there could be a lot said in those three characters.

Some points about the Chinese Zodiac: There are 12 signs, but they don't correspond to 12 periods in one year like in the Western Zodiac. Chinese Zodiac symbols last a whole year. They come in a 12 year cycle, and the cycle repeats. So, if you were born in the Year of the Horse, your age in 2014 could be 0(newborn), 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, etc. If you meet someone and they tell you what sign they were born under in the Chinese Zodiac, you can figure out exactly how old they are. From Wikipedia: "Chinese New Year usually falls on the second new moon after the winter solstice." In this case, Jan 31, 2014. It's not the same day every year. Your sign goes by the year of the Chinese calendar you were born in, not the calendar year. Children born after Jan1, but before Jan 31 this calendar year are still sign of the snake.
Some generalizations I have heard about some of the signs:
Horse - strong, noble, but destined to work hard all their lives.
Dragon - The most powerful sign. The Dragon represented the Emperor. (I have a dragon lady daughter)
Tiger - Also powerful, but sometimes tempermental
Snake - Very smart, very clever, but watch out for them. (I was born in the year of the snake) :coolsmirk:
Monkey - Very smart, also playful.
Some traditions:
The Chinese New Year banquet is a major tradition. There are certain foods you eat that are supposed to ensure wealth in the new year, longevity, etc. A full on Chinese New Year banquet has so many courses, you might lose count. :lol:
Red envelopes with money (Lucky Money) are given to the younger generations by the older generations. Even adults are supposed to get lucky money from their parents. Children love Chinese New Year. :-)

I know this it OT, but I wonder when Daz is going to change the background picture on the home page. It's been there for like a year now, and they used to change it like every few months or so.

It has had subtle changes Music, the background stays the same but the foreground figures do change from time to time.

I just heard today that my best friend through high school, who went past 8th degree black belt in karate to a master dragon status in martial arts, who never smoked any cigarettes, never drank too much, who is a major health food nut, exercises and walks daily, very trim and not overweight, very successful as a husband and father, non stressed, very friendly, church going and financially stable guy with a nice home....has done everything right...was rushed to the hospital last week after he collapsed and underwent a quadroople bypass to save his life!!!!!!
You would have never known. He survived it, but no one saw this coming in any way. He will now have restrictions and lifestyle changes for the rest of his life.
It just goes to show....you never know. I believe that when God decides it's your time, he will take you no matter what condition you are in. I see homeless people who look like death, sleeping out in the cold, starving and alcohal ridden, that survive lifes toughest blows and don't have this happen to them. Isn't life strange!

I think that we don't really know what "everything right" really is. Almost regularly I see something on the news that basically says, "What we used to say was bad is not really so bad after all". Just this week they announced results of a study that showed that perhaps a pregnant woman can have a glass of wine once or twice a week, and that it might even be beneficial to the child. Before all alcohol was a no-no.
And then there is the genetic factor. For example, there are some people who genetically produce too much bad cholesterol, even though they eat "right". Arteries get blocked even though they're doing the "right thing". Fact is, all foods don't effect all people the same way. Caffeine keeps most people awake. Me, not so much. I can fall asleep a half hour after just having Dr. Pepper or iced tea or coffee milk (which I make pretty strong). Although, I don't fall asleep in a half hour very often, no matter what I have or have not consumed.
