Render Node too old

edited December 1969 in Carrara Discussion

I had started a thread with a wrong title... (NEEEEWWWB!!)

So here I go with the right one.

I have an iMac intel 2009 with Carrara 8.5 and an old trusty powermac G5.

I tried rendering with 8.5 on imac and 8.1 build 153 on the other...

8.5 says it's too old.

I tried the tile size trick of reducing the file size that evilproducer gave me, unfortunately it didn't work.

I'm uploading pics of what I got as settings, maybe something is wrong.

Why not install 8.5 Render Node on the other computer?

All throughout the beta testing of both Carrara 8 and 8.5, every time we got a new Carrara file to install, we also got the compatible Render Node.

On the machine that is only rendering via network from the other machine, you only need to install the Render Node - but it has to be the render node from the same version as the machine that Has Carrara installed - or you get the problem you're seeing.

Sorry if I wasn't clear Roby. The tile size trick is for using C8. It's meant to help wilt complex scenes by making sure a slower computer doesn't get stuck on one spot.

I'm not sure what to do about the PPC and the C8.5 render node. Does the regular 32 bit version of C8.5 work on the PPC?

It should. I believe that you may also use the 32 bit Render Node being controlled by the 64 bit Carrara on the sending machine.

I use smaller tile sizes, as ep says, to keep from having one core having to work out an intense-to-render piece all by itself. By giving each core a tinier chuck to render, they blaze through and then all cores can help to get the high detailed spots together.

Unfortunately, the 32 bit doesn't work...

I would need a PPC named one...

But it's not bad, I still have 8.1 on my imac for only rendering if I need so.

Thanx for he tile size, I'll try that later on with both 8.1z

    :-)
