My Latest Content Manager Fiasco

GreybroGreybro Posts: 2,502

Well, now, after like the 3rd reinstall, my Content library is good and hosed up. I've tried every option inside the Content DD Maintenance tab and none of my installed Genesis shapes show up and most of my content doesn't show up under Products. A few of the things that come with the Genesis Essentials shows up but that's it. For instance, I just reinstalled Mr Hyde. Nothing shows up. Not under Files, and not under Products. This is frustrating to no end.

Is there a fool proof set of steps to get just what I have actually installed to show up properly?

    Are your libraries mapped?
Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager. Expand both DS and Poser formats and make sure your correct libraries are mapped under both.

First of all, where did you install the content to, and did you use the DAZ Install Manager?

Can you please post a screenshot of the expanded listing of Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager, showing the paths that you have listed for BOTH DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats.

If you used DIM to install, it installs content by default into C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library and that path needs to be listed in BOTH Poser and DS formats.

I did see an error in my DS library location. I used Install manager. Let me see if this fixes things after re-importing the data.

    Question about this part Jimmy

"If you used DIM to install, it installs content by default into C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library and that path needs to be listed in BOTH Poser and DS formats."

My Poser is on an entirely different drive in dozens of runtimes. I have it setup accordingly in DIM.

Are you using the DIM or manually installing?

Are your content directories properly mapped in the DS options...ALL content directories...both in the DS and Poser format sections.

The DIM does not default to the same content location as the manual installers do and if you do both, then you NEED to have both locations mapped in DS.

If you have any content installed in a DS folder under your user profile, that also has to be mapped in the Content options. In other words, you need an entry for EACH location you have content.

Even if your Poser-format content is installed elsewhere, DS-format content has textures in Runtime/Textures, so you should add that path under Poser formats as well.

For the most part correcting the error with the paths in content manager fixed the problem. I have a sole hold out with the the Yellow ! point icon. Any idea how I make DS see the product?

This is what your paths SHOULD look like DS should ALWAYS be pointed to its Content as BOTH DAZ Studio Format and Poser Format. The Runtime folder IS used and only read if listed as a POSER format folder as well...

Presently that's what I have. This weird issue is with a Poser only item.

Shouldn't uninstalling and re-installing the product fix the issue? It doesn't seem to and that strikes me as very odd when virtually everything else is now working.

Also if the Database file is Corrupted Reset and Re-Import will not FIX the BAD Database file. DELETE the old Database File and BUILD a fully new one.

THAT is good to know. At least now I can see the file in Content Library and use it. I appreciate your super fast response.

Ah, Now we are getting some place. Which Poser item is causing the Issue? This could be a product error and not a DS error.

EDIT:Hey your Welcome Happy your working now.

Well you would list a Item I do not have, I do not have very much Gen3 items at all. But it looks to me to be a OLDER item that I myself would use the Content Library Tab to find. In Poser Formats, For you the Poser folder.

Is it just me or does the search function in the content library only work about half the time?

Is your Search set to DATABASE or to FILES? I use Files, that is the OS way allowing wildcards. The Database setting will only find content in the CMS database, Files hunts your listed folders for the NAME you use. They need to match pretty close but wild cards help.

Your gonna be a DS content master at the rate your learning all my secrets. Here is one tip for you DO a DataBase back up at least once a week, and also NEVER install content with DAZ Studio open, not even hand installed content.

Well JAYsus! I feel I have been denied, critical, need to know information. I installed content with DAZ Studio open all that darn time! Thanks for the heads up and I shall also start backing up.

They have said it does not effect anything. I have personally had my Database fail twice in one month by installing with DAZ Studio open. I have gone 2 plus months now with zero errors by only installing with DAZ Studio closed. All PC's are not equal so it works for some but in my View is a fast way to lose your database again. So to me, Closed is the only option for installing now.

Oh, I believe you as "THEY" have known to be wrong about such matters in the past. I'll be happy play it safe when installing. :)

Darn it! After installing a few more things today with Daz Studio closed, all my content has disappear once again! I am convinced that there is some bug in the software, either with DS or DIM!

    What AV are you running?

The most common reason for the CMS to not run consistently is AV interference....

    AV = Anti Virus

I your content has disappeared you must be looking at Smart Content or Products or Categories. The content will still be found in the Content Library pane. All of the others mentioned before, rely on CMS to be running, before they can work.

CMS runs as a process in Windows. Look in the Task Manager to see if it is running, if not, you can try to start it from Start > All Programs > DAZ 3D.

If it wont start your database may be corrupted, and will need to be replaced, but check to see if CMS is running first, and if your AV is preventing it from running.

It was running and I saw nothing to indicate Defender was preventing it from doing it's job. I tried a few of the maintenance options and set DS a fews but nothing shows up in Smart Content. It's all still in the folders in the Content Library but the search doesn't work and that makes libries the size of mine useless unfortunately.

The search function in the Content Library pane also relies on CMS to be running.

Ether your AV is stopping it, or the database has become corrupted. If you can see it running as a Process in Task Manager it should be running correctly. It also appears in the Services tab in Task Manager, and it should say 'Running' in there as well, have you checked that?
