Grungy horror comics using Daz and ClipStudio WIP
Hi there, I've been lurking the forums here and playing with Daz in my spare time for a little while now. Thought it was time to show what I've made and talk about my process so far in case it might be helpful!
My current comic project is about a girl navigating a nightmare that takes place in an abandoned asylum. I'm planning on keeping it relatively nonviolent, just your typical nightmare scenerio where the protag focuses on escaping versus fighting. I've been fortunate to get some spooky lighting that works well with the asylum set, both as freebies. My goal was finish this comic in time for halloween but unfortunately did not have the time or the funds to purchase the monster models I want to use. (such is the life of a broke millenial haha)
The comic is in webtoon format, as eventually I would like to try my luck posting comics to webtoon sites, so it may look a bit unconventional. I've been using the general art program ClipStudio Paint to compose, filter and add text to my comic works, it's very helpful. (Note that I am in no way sponsored by CSP haha, I genuninely believe it's a godsend of a program) Recently they updated it and you can now filter photos/3d renders with the "artistic" filter to give them a painterly look and add on line art in a single step. I used to use Fotosketcher and Gimp to try to get a similar look but it never came out as well as this CSP filter. The filter is very adjustable so you can get hard or soft shading while also getting crisp lines.
Of course, it's not perfect, I did do some post editing, and most likely need to do even more post editing to get the exact look I want. For an extra grungy effect I used large paint-like grunge texture from Pixabay and adjusted the colors to be sickly green.
I've attached some of the original renders as well at their full size if you'd like to compare. All rendering was done with 3dlight using this light: https://www.daz3d.com/lighting-pack-for-public-shower didn't use any special shaders (that I remember), just default. Model is G8f, using a freebie anime head morph, dress and socks I found around other sites.
Hopefully this has been interesting so far. I'd love feedback and/or critique if you have any!

Looks great. I would rather see regular or traditional Fonts and word balloon graphics.
Maybe something that is slightly tinted and grungy too.
A hand-written looking font, to be more specific.
