Hi all,

I'm a graphic novelist who has been using Poser Pro, and models from DAZ3D for several years now. I was featured in DAZ's marketing in 2011 (http://www.daz3d.com/shop/explore/user-stories/explore-shane-smith/), and I thought I would like to share some of my favourite renders from my work with you. I'm happy to share some details of my process with anyone who's interested.

I currently use Poser Pro 2014 and Paint Shop Pro 7 (from 1997) to put this artwork together. That's it. That's all you need.

In this thread, I'll be demonstrating some of the huge range of options that I've discovered while playing around with the software. Until recently I worked exclusively in black and white; but recently, as you'll see, I have started to get some decent results with artwork in colour as well.

Thanks for taking a look!

    I'm probably best known for my black-and-white work in sci-fi graphic novels, as these works have been published. Here are some examples.

    Here's what I'm working on at the moment. A fantasy epic called Triumviratus. If it gets picked up soon, I'd like it to be a monthly series.

    And (last post for now, I promise) a slightly different style for a flashback issue.

    This one was an impromptu render yesterday, mostly for the fun of it. Both figures are M4. Other products used include:

    * A Dungeon Entrance
    * Ad Gladio
    * The Last Gladiator
    * Tauran for M4
    * WoodGod for M4 (Minotaur's axes)
    * Ron's Blood
    * Ron's Mud

    Something that might interest comic folks:

    A 74 page miniseries that I put together using DAZ models is free from now until the end of Free Comic Book Day only!

    Although thematically and narratively, the book works very well, I’m also very proud of how the book turned out visually, and I hope you agree that this software is capable of producing an impressive range of different types of artwork.

    Very nice work, some day I'll have enough ram in this computer to do stuff that good without the thing crashing, lol.

    Seriously tho, very nice work. I look forward to more.

    That black and white holograph like thing in the first post, looks familiar. It reminds me of the days I was fussing with making a Sulaco Hull in Autocad2000 years ago. I never finished that project, perhaps someday I'll go and look at that spaceship structure and hull again.

    Here's a bite-sized preview of my latest project.

    Brett Buckley, suddenly finding himself undead, attempts to hide his status from family, friends and co-workers, all the while trying to figure out his place in the world, coach his kids' soccer team, and reconcile his vegetarian morals with his insatiable hunger for living flesh.

    Ladies and gentlemen, I present for your enjoyment some concept art for
    UNDAD

    Becoming dead reminded him how to live...

    The second image is some very early-stage concept art, using Toon Generations. That one is just a bit of fun - not the final character designs at all.

    The first and third images are closer to the aesthetic I'm pursuing with this comic. Both are concept art, and use Hiro Toon and Aiko Toon. The kids were made using some very old figures I found on RDNA (Koshini 2 and Ichiro 2).

    In the first image, undead Brett is desperately trying to retain his humanity, and is relying entirely on his family (who don't know his terrible secret) for his sanity.

    In the final image, Brett Buckley plays with his son out the front of the house, while his wife looks on and his daughter hangs around because she has nothing better to do at the moment. The game is playful, but the foreshadowing is ominous (as is the actual shadowing). And UH OH! is Brett wearing a bandage on his arm? Things are about to get real for the Buckleys.

    Hi canberra_boy, I haven't seen you in a while. Nice to see that you are still posting your renders. I like the style. The render with Koshini 2 and Ichiro 2 is cute.
