If anybody's wondering why I've been interested in changing skintones on textures, especially to fix footsoles and palms, this is the render I was working on that for. Needless to say I still haven't come up with a layer mask good enough to use IMHO. But otherwise I think this came out okay. Used Ethnicity for Genesis, Four Arms for Genesis, Triclops, and Dental Plan for Genesis. DS4.5Pro render, prework and postwork in GIMP. Larger version in my deviantART gallery here.

All things considered, it's simply a good skill to have. It allows the ability to "fix" some textures while also opening up options.

I was hoping that once I'd made the layer masks I could put them up as freebies, so anybody who wanted to could do their own fixes easily in GIMP or Photoshop, as long as they were working from matching textures. But nothing I've done's been good enough yet. :red: (To be honest I haven't spent much time on it, just fiddling around between other projects.)

What are the most common UVs? The Genesis default UV is V4, and the coordinating textures for Four Arms fG and Triclops are M4. What else? Since I use Genesis almost exclusively now and DAZStudio usually switches the UV to match the texture automagically, I haven't been paying attention to what UVs I've been using.

A simple shot featuring Rob G. doing some jeans modeling from a recent photo shoot ;-) (BTW The G is for Genesis, using a subtle mix of the ethnic morphs & M5 body base with M4's UVs)

I really don't think you need to worry about much besides M4/V4 at this point. Gen3 textures need to be converted before they can work with Genesis in any event, so whatever you do for M4/V4 would work for the up-converted textures. I don't think F4/H4/A4/S4 had their own UVs, did they? I've got all of those figures, and none of them seem to have a listing in the Surfaces tab. I know they did in Gen3, and then DAZ seemed to get rid of most of that for Gen4, and then, realizing that they were leaving money on the table, brought it back for Gen5. Really wish they hadn't, but such is life.

Gen5 has very very very few commercially available merchant resource kits at present -- I haven't paid attention to what's out there for V5, but there's precisely ONE commercially available M5 merchant resource kit that I know of, and I really don't think people are going to be trying to darken it -- so I think you're OK to ignore Gen5 for now.

And if you try to get into supporting the option for M5/V5/A5/H5/F5/S5/YT5/whatever5 is next, you'll make yourself crazy.

    hi to all
I was just passing by and found this tread this is a great idea. I just started with DAZ, a short time ago, and after seeing some of the work here, I have to be the baby at this. I was posting some of my images on the WIP tread, and sometimes not getting a reply, and find out if I am going in the right direction when it comes to images of color, I wonder if I can post some here and see if I am getting at least some things right

    thanks for your time

You may want to repost your image(s) here so that people can give suggestions on any needed adjustments.

hi this is one of the renders I was working on, for one I would like to know if it has gone a little to far over the line, with the subject matter,
if not, what do you all think, and what do you think I should do next
    thanks, love to learn

by the way the name of this image is forbidden

Image removed by mod for nudity. Please review this thread http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/3279_4/

well did ask if it was over the edge but no one got back to me on that image, if I was told I would have removed it myself, and still no one have helped me with letting me know if the last one I posted was good bad or just not worth it, I was hopping I could get some kind of help.

My laptop cable has been dead the past two weeks so my internet has been limited. I've still had some access so I probably should have still commented some though. This thread has had odder waves of discussion and silence compared to the original thread.

From a purely mechanical perspective, the original deleted image simply had flaws in lighting and render settings but I'm not sure how to fix it and I'm quite sure I'm not the best at giving specifics. The second image looks good but my brain keeps saying something is "off" but I can't place my finger on just what. It might be the depth on the fog.

If your image violates the rules, the mods will remove it. They were not going to leave it up until you came back, since they have no way of knowing when you would come back.

I like your last image, but it looks dark, maybe because the lighting comes from behind the little island? It's also unclear what's the focal point of the image. The sun draws the eye away from the stuff in front of it, and that makes those things look like they are in the way of the sun, instead of being important themselves. Might be fun to see what it looks like if you add at least one light to shine on the island and the faerie, maybe just an edge light coming from the side?

the first image was deleted, I will not do that again, but on the other hand you have to learn somewhere, as for the image I think it was the water and the way the moon reflected off of it but I will never know because I will not post it again, ever

thank you for giving me something to go on, I will try adding light on the fairy, the mountain is out of the water so you can see the reflection of her in it, I did not know any other way to do that, but this is the place to fine out,

I am working on a new one that I will post soon
that you all for you help

    thank love to learn

    hi to all

I made some improvements to the last image, and hope it is better, I bumped up the ray trace, and added more light, to the fairy and moved up the plane of water so one of her toes is touching it. and moved the sun down I little more.

and just for fun I came up with a back story, I know it has nothing to do with this site, but I felt it would be fun.
she is the last of the fairy', the same as superman, who lost his planet. no amount of clapping can bring back her world, or friends. sitting on what is left of her land, she reflects what has happen, could she have stopped it could, was there something she could have done to stop it, could she have saved it, or was she apart of her worlds destruction.

    thanks.

    hi
I would like to introduce you to my steam punk diva
as you can see this image is a little on the dark side, so I am asking for advice, how do I lighten this up around the head without losing the small bite of glossiness on her body
    thanks

In Poser I would put a spotlight light on her face and narrow the light angle so that it only lit the face. I assume there must be a way to do something similar in DS?

You can use a spotlight (under the Create tab). Depending on what angle you want the light to be, you can play with x, y, and z dials. You might also want to adjust the intensity and spread.

Nice stuff there. The shadows work out relatively well.

Seems like I'm back from falling off the face of the Earth again. Fair bit of stuff got released including a scenery/prop set that may have some uses.

I'm in the process of rebuilding my content library and came across Jepes Movie Men VII pack to install. I picked it up at Poser Addicts years ago, during a $1 sale. I don't remember the last time I played with the package. After installing, I was testing everything and was surprised how well this image rendered out of the box. The figure is David and the character is Gareth. What impressed me the most is the hair. It's a displacement map!
