I need to load a photograph to use as a template, to build a model. How do I do that in Hexagon?

    Under the properties tab.....

Just mark the box and browse for your picture...

    Option 2

The way I do this is to create a cube then select the front face and press I to invent the selection then delete the unwanted faces. Then go to the UV & Paint section and choose the planar projection. In the Materials tab, select Texture Image and browse to your photo. I Choose the photo, then browse for it again and select Preview, Windows Photo Gallery with give you the photo size. Input the scale into the X,Y -.01 (so a 1200 *1200 is 120, the pic will be far to big if you do not downsize it).

Name the Reference image in the Materials Tab and the Scene Tab, When you have it in the right position use the lock option so you do not choose it by mistake.

Black ink drawing on a transparent .png?

In an image editor, add a coloured layer to the background and save out as .jpeg.
