Oscar Nominated Short Animations 2014
We saw these at the Houston Sundance Theater downtown, I doubt they're playing at the suburban mall theaters anywhere. A pretty good batch this year, go see them if you can:
Feral
Daniel Sousa and Dan Golden
A 2D spooky video that reminds me a little of "Amphigorey"
Get a Horse!
Lauren MacMullan and Dorothy McKim
A Disney tribute/parody to the early Mickey Mouse cartoons, a clever combination of 2D and 3D
Possessions
Shuhei Morita
A fantasy from Japan, with some "Fantasia" like sequences with umbrells, silk materials, etc.
Room on the Broom
Max Lang and Jan Lachauer
A children's bedtime story that reminds me of Aesop.
Mr. Hublot
Laurent Witz and Alexandre Espigares
A great steampunk 3D production that reminds me a little of "The Tripletts of Belleville". OK, its 3D instead of 2D, but some of the story elements are the same - urban setting, an elevated train. And a growing dog. Image attached.

Mr. Hublot just won the Academy Award for best short animation. Well deserved, a good boost for steampunk.
And BTW, "Helium" won for short live action, a great production with a little CGI in there.
A good year, even without Pixar ...
thanks for the info - just watched

Mr. Hublot is a Belgian realization, and I have just seen with the TV news that it is his wife who made the musical track.
Dudu, for Carrara news, in Belgium… hum hum.. :cheese:
The music is very good, supports the mood of the video nicely. I think my favorite part of the whole thing is the last minute or so, basically after the end. Sort of like the "outtakes" from Pixar movies like "Finding Nemo", "The Incredibles", etc.
