Error Could not find parent for modifier after using G3F to G8F converter

I've been getting the following errors after upgrading some characters from G3F to G8F.  I've removed the G8F actors and reinstalled the original G3F morphs, with no changes.  Any help would be appreciated.

  • When are you getting these errors?  When you are loading generic G8F?

  • Yes, when I load her.  I've removed all other error messages.  I've removed everything I can think of concerning these characters.  I was thinking of trying to upgrade them from G3F to G8F again, but suspect I'll still get the same results.

    I do not get this error no matter how I delete converted morphs (deleting CTRL morph or leaving CTRL morph and deleting the other morphs).  I tried to do some spelunking with google.  The only thing I could find to suggest is Edit>Prefrences and clicking the button to clear the DSON Cache.

    Oddly enough, I added to a 2017 thread about this last night. I'm having the same problem with G8M but only in the last couple of days since I bought the Dain8 PPack. I haven't made any changes and all my morphs haven't been touched in a good while. I've been working on props for over 2 weeks.

     

    I expect this thread will be merged with that.

  • I just noticed something odd.  In "S:\NZXT Storage\Documents\Daz 3D\My Library\data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female\Morphs\", I have a folder called nekura.sadisuto.  In that folder are all the names of G3F characters I created, and upgraded using "Convert Scene Character G3F to G8F".  In addition, I have folders for Bethany 7 HD, FWSA Caterina, Javeria, and Local User.  That part that states "Could not find parent for modifier: CTRL-RSC-NAME" can be found in those folders.  I also found that when I try to load these characters, it doesn't have that character head at 100% in parameters.

    What does it even mean by 'parent'? I tried uninstalling Dain and his addons but no change. I haven't changed any directory, I haven't deleted any files and all these files are exactly where they should be.

    I've done some digging, I happened to have a backup for the the one that caused me to look in the log in my DeviantArt Stash. I then looked to see if the others had loaded on my character and they have so I was wondering why it says there's an error. Should I not be having spaces in my morph names? I checked in my morph library and some morphs don't have any spaces but others do. There's only one in the list that I didn't make myself but it's FBMHeight, there's loads of those so, which one is anyone's guess.

    Okay, what I'm about to provide is going to sound weird, but here goes.  I've removed all the upgrades of my G3F's purchases, along with my personally modified characters.  I've decided to start from scratch again. My first problems began with "Duplicate Formulas", which I realized over time came from two packages I purchased.  Whenever I removed them, I stopped my errors for "Duplicate Formulas".  Therefore, I've taken them off my computer, never to be seen again.  The three lines that relate to TMLI Lashes 06 occur, I think, from a purchase I made for G8F; which I can live with.  I finally managed to remove the warnings that relate to Karrie, Javeria, Caterina, and Bethany.  It seems that the CTRL-RSC files for each were in my "data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female\Morphs\nekura.sadisuto" folder.  After I removed them, those warnings went away.

     

    Now here's the odd stuff.  When I had those characters on my computer as G8Fs and tried to load them, the face's never appeared.  For example, if I loaded Karrie and went to the parameters settings, Karrie's head was set to 0.  Now that I have them all removed, you would think those faces are gone from the parameters listing when I load G8F, but you would be wrong.  They're there and work as if I'd already converted them.  The other characters I purchases don't exist in the parameter settings for the head of G8F.

    This bit got my attention. Have you Converted figures from G3 to G8? I tried last week to convert a G3 custom character but it didn't work. That's the only thing I can think that I've done differently. 

    You said 'upgrading' in your first message. I understood that you'd stoppe used 'Name3' and installed 'Name8'. So you mean 'Converted'?

    If they are appearing in your parameter list, that means they exist somewhere on your system.  DS builds that list by looking around your system.  If you show the Parameter Settings, do they have a path in the Card edit box?  That can help you find where some of the morphs are.  Otherwise, you just need to take the name at the top of the Parameter settings, e.g., FBMMorphName and search for that using windows explorer.

  • RiverSoftArt: Yeah, I was beginning to think that a certain file I kept in the data section was what allowed that.  For example, I have "FHM-SabbyCaterina", which is the kind of file you mentioned.  Can be helpful if I'm just making changes to the basic shape.  This experience has helped me in other areas.  I hope to fix the lash problem down the road, after letting the makers of a certain character know that I think they have an error.

    jimmac-donald: I've used both aspects.  So, I've upgraded characters I've purchases along with those I created.  So yes, I've used "Character Converter G3F to G8F" and "Convert Scene Character G3F to G8F".  For both types of upgrade, I've given up on the option "Convert Corrective Morphs (JCMs, MCMs)".  I don't have much luck with that option.  I use both convert and upgrade for the same process, depending on what I'm doing.  Generally, I use convert for puchased characters and upgrade for the one's I've made.  Here's a custom character I did.  Here was the result: https://www.deviantart.com/wow-creations/art/Compare-829487105?ga_submit_new=10%3A1580979592

    I just had the same problem (maybe I'm wrong, I don't speak english) my problem came from saving a character as a support asset/ figure prop assets on my desktop, I saved my character again in the right folder and my problem was solved... I don't know if it's the same problem but maybe it will be useful to someone someday ;)

    Sorry to necro this thread, but I had this problem with some of my own Genesis 9 morphs, and I found a solution that might be useful to the next person.

    In the .dsf morph file (in the data folder, not in the characters folder), line 18 has a reference to the parent.  For the one that wouldn't load the line was

    "parent" : "#Genesis9-1",

    and for one that was loading the line was 

    "parent" : "/data/DAZ%203D/Genesis%209/Base/Genesis9.dsf#Genesis9",

    So I replaced the shorter line with the longer one that had the correct pointer, and the morph loaded on the next try.

    Thank you! I was wondering my G8F morph wouldn't load, and somehow when I exported the morph it was parented to.. the scene? Changed it to "parent" : "/data/Daz%203D/Genesis%208/Female/Genesis8Female.dsf#geometry" and it fixed it.. No idea why it's doing that as I've done it countless times in the past.

    These are the two main "Parent" settings for use with G8F, first one is for anything that has morph deltas in it, the second is for everything else ie control assets, pose controls etc.

    "parent" : "/data/Daz%203D/Genesis%208/Female%208_1/Genesis8_1Female.dsf#Genesis81FemaleGeom",
    "parent" : "/data/Daz%203D/Genesis%208/Female%208_1/Genesis8_1Female.dsf#Genesis8_1Female",

    G8.1F is similar to G8F, but uses #Genesis81FemaleGeom instead of #geometry for assets with morph deltas.

    Things get a little sketchy with G9 as the # tags are pretty similar, #Genesis9-1 is the tag for morph deltas.

    Bad Parent errors in the log is something I see regularly, it's also the first thing I look for when trouble shooting morph issues for my friends.
