    Hello !

I have trouble to find how to generate smart content without using a zip file.

    Let me explain.

A few months ago, I bought more than a hundred products on Renderosity and I installed these products manually on a dedicated hard drive each time and then deleted the zip archives.

Recently, I wanted to generate the smart content of all the products on this dedicated hard drive with CW but I don't see how to do that without using the zip archives.

So I had the idea to create a zip archive including absolutely the entire folder of my special Renderosity library like it was a really BIG product and the archive looks like this:
G:\AllRendoLib.zip\Content\(All the files like Data, Runtime, People, etc).

Maybe the archive is too heavy for CW (~450GB), but when I run the analysis, it tells me "No User Facing...".
I should point out that I took care to check that the SCI working directory is empty and that I have more than enough space to work (10TB).

My question is: Am I stupid? Or is there a way to generate smart content directly from my already installed rendo library without going through any zip archive?

    Thanks in advance.

Edit : Ok, i have found my answer in the comments section of your YT video tutorial.

The question was : "Sorry for this stupid question but is it possible to generate Smart Content Metadata right inside DAZ for installed content? I have a lot of products from sites like Renderosity and I don't want to redownload and reinstall every single product. That would be great, thank you!"

And your answer was : "You need the zip files as CW would have no idea what files are part of the product. You don't need to reinstall them necessarily as long as the paths don't change from the zip, but the zips are definitely needed."

I'm really sad... Look like i will have to redownload every single products :(

It would be great, in the future, to be able to tell CW to simply scan a specific pointed library or a specific pointed folder to generate SC.

If these are older products (V4 era), they might not have user facing files like later stuff.  However, even if you got it to work, I would not recommend it as even if it worked, it would take forever.  And more than likely, you would make a mistake somewhere and CW would generate metadata for an asset already in another Daz product, causing DS to get confused.

The zips are really needed to help CW figure out what refers to what.  It was and is incredibly hard to figure out what files are since places like Rendo do not enforce the Daz rules.  The zips made it easier.

Hello and thank you for your answer.

    I have another question...

When BatchCW installs products that contain the "Manifest.dsx" file, does it rely primarily on this file to install the smart content?
Or maybe the "Manifest.dsx" files have nothing to do with the smart content?
If so, if BatchCW relies primarily on the "Manifest.dsx" files if they are present alongside the "content" folders, is it still a problem if the creator has not respected the daz conventions?
For example, I bought a lot of products directly from the DAZ store and some clothes are in a folder named "Genesis 8 Females" instead of "Genesis 8 Female".
Another creator sells his product on the daz store except that the path is "Enviroments" instead of "Environments".

So, I end up with a library like:

    Content\Data

    Content\People\Genesis 8 Female

    Content\People\Genesis 8 Females

    Content\People\Genesis 8 Female\Character

    Content\People\Genesis 8 Female\Characters

    Content\Enviroments

    Content\Environments

    Content\Etc...

Everything is sold on the daz store and with the "Manifest.dsx" file.
I would like to know if there is no problem getting the smart content as long as the product has the "Manifest.dsx" file?

Or do I need to manually fix all the wrong path event if the "Manifest" file is included ?

Thank you in advance for your insights.

CW does not look for or at the Manifest.dsx.  If a zip has it and is coming from Daz, there is already metadata and you should be using DIM.

I don't like DIM. It confuse me in some way...

I will need to do some cleaning manually ! ^^

I find DIM vastly superior to the other ways Daz allows you to install content. smiley  But the point is that for Daz content, use Daz methods for installation as they already got the metadata right (or at least better than CW can do)

    Have a nice day too!

    Sorry,

    Hello Riversoft;
after the last update of DAZ Studio to version 4.22.0.19
after installing the metadata in the smart content CW is not closed properly.
Either items of clothing or figures from different stores remain in the scene!
Is there an update or another solution for this?

It's pretty annoying to have to close and restart DAZ every time!

    Thanks
    Dieter

    I'll investigate.

For me, CW finishes.  However, it IS slower.  Looking at the Daz log for when CW is installing Smart Content, I see a lot of this:

    2024-10-09 07:07:55.928 [INFO] :: Clearing the scene...
    2024-10-09 07:10:39.938 [INFO] :: Loaded image: Fabric 1_Color.jpg
    2024-10-09 07:10:39.975 [WARNING] :: QWidget::repaint: Recursive repaint detected
    2024-10-09 07:10:40.092 [INFO] :: *** Scene Cleared ***

Notice the BIG time gap between when the script calls Scene.clear() and the scene ACTUALLY being cleared.  I don't think I can do anything about that.  The call is an atomic operation (i.e., one line of code) that the script has no control over.  I will keep investigating though.

    Hello Riversoft,

I tried to install some files with CW again today and again encountered the problem I mentioned!

After installing in Smart Content, the last piece of clothing or figure remains in the viewport and cannot be deleted without canceling CW and DAZ Studio.

Even after waiting for over 10 minutes, nothing happened!

    The metadata is saved correctly!

Attached is the log file and a screen shot

What version of DS are you using?  I am not seeing this at all.  In fact, with 4.23.0.1 I am not seeing the slowdown either.

I just purchased Content Wizard, hoping to save time setting up smart content info for external purchases.

Unfortunately, I cannot even start it, Studio crashes hard when attempting to start the Content Wizard script.

Maybe, my environment is not supported?

    • Studio 4.23
    • MacOS 15.2
    • Apple Silicon (M3 Max)

    Installed via DIM.

    Any ideas?

This is all I could find in the log file:

This is not really a surprise, since, despite the name, '/Users/Shared' on a Mac is not some network link. It is a bare basic folder on the local hard disk next to the user's home folder.

Hmmm, this definitely works on a Mac.  If you run it TWICE, what does the log say between crashes?  Often, the Daz log won't show the last couple messages until something else flushes the log buffer.

Unfortunately there is nothing more in the log, I get a hard crash - Studio exits immediately.

Next messages in the log file then are the Studio startup messages:

Good to hear this should be working on a Mac. The problem may be that I am using a machine with an Apple Silicon chip? Do you also have such a machine at your disposal for testing or are you still using an Intel machine? Next best option may be the OS version, I am on MacOS 15.2 (most recent release) which unfortunately is not the greatest release ever - it has known issues with a couple of well known tools (Little Snitch and SuperDuper in my case).

Edit: Are there by any chance some additional debug setting I could turn on to get more info in the log?

Hmmm, I will have to think about it.  Unfortunately, I have only have a 10? year old Mac Mini collecting dust somewhere.  I will see if I could create a debug version for you.  Do you have other scripts from me?  Do they work?

    This does not bode well...

I've been away from Studio for quite some time and have a completely empty Runtime at the moment (besides Studio default content). Thought about starting cleanly from scratch.

Let me see if I have scripts from other vendors I could try...

Okay, could not find many scripts to install. But I do own UltraScenery 2 (which is a plugin) and Alienator Pro II (which is a script) - installed both. UltraScenery works. And the window for the Alienator Pro script as well as the Alienator Builder do open, cannot test much more her atm.

I have a MacBook Pro with a M1 Pro chip. I'll see if I can test it, but as far as I remember, it did launch the couple of times I launched with the intent to learn how to use it.

Edit: it launched without any problem (which in itself may not meant that much, some scripts have a tendency to crash Daz on my Mac and may require a couple of relaunch of Daz before finally being able to launch the script without Daz crashing).

That's great, thanks for testing. Now to figure out what's wrong on my end... Given that I have a clean new Studio install all I can think of is the OS. Which version are you currently on?

Edit: Since you mentioned that you do get random crashes with scripts I tried again to open the script multiple times in a row. And indeed out of about twenty tries it did open once! Unfortunately every orther try afterwards failed again :-(

Edit 2: And trying again with Alienator, the Set Builder also crashes randomly (with a very similar trace). Oh my...

Which version of DS 4.23 are you using, general release or latest beta? AFAIK the general release had some issues with several plugins on a Mac so if that's what you are using I would try the beta in case it is linked.

Thanks for the tip Leana. I was using 4.23.0.1, the current Beta is 4.23.0.4 - unfortunately I am experiencing the same crashes with that version. :-(

I am using Content Wizard for literally years now on a Mac, both Intel and Apple Silicon. I had no issues with any DS release prior to 4.23.x. It does crash (a lot) when running on 4.23, both the current build and the public beta one. DS 4.23.x is as stable as a wet paper house in a hailstorm. CW even would work with a network shared drive, as this is my standard setup since 2020.

  • I hadn't realized that 4.23 had caused so many problems on the Mac.

Riversoft, sorry to bother you with this, but I cannto figure it out.  Every time I install anything, it also reinstalls these:

Nevermind!  If anyone notices that Content Wizard is reinstalling the same files every time (but also installing the new files correctly) go to:

    C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4\temp\ContentWizard

And delete everything in that folder.
