Thanks!  Here's my facebook page with a few more evacuation photos, will give you a good idea what else we were doing. And Stetson today, at the place we evacuated him to.

I remember Milton it was like I think the town near the I-10 exit before we head south to go to Destin. Speaking of natural calmities I am helping a lady clean up her yard after a recent wind storm sent trees toppling in her yard. I don't know about you folks but starting in August 2000 in the Ticino Alps and continuing to different places I, friends, and kin that live in the USA to this day so many trees have fallen directly nearby us as we were walking, in our yards, even in a couple of cases, directly on our houses (me in Fall 2008 on the kitchen roof in Brandenburg Kentucky from the remnants of a hurricane(after an F4 tornado in Feb 2008 sent trees toppling in my yard in the same house) and my cousin 3 months ago on her living room roof in two counties over. It's because the soil is getting too wet and soft from the increased rainfall amounts (well except for the cases of the tornado & hurricane hitting me in the same house in 2008 those were excessively high winds).

In better news I am adopting a male Indian Ringneck this Saturday as a friend for my flakey scaredy cat female Indian Ringneck. His name is Wesley and I hope Missy likes him. He is a baby blue color and Missy is a bright neon yellow. They should make a good pair.

Missy, gave me a big scare today. She always panics anytime she thinks I'm going to sweep (or doing anything resembling cleaning at all and it drives me bonkers as it makes no sense), put on a baseball cap, or a doctor's facemask: so anyway I came in with the weedeater in my hand wearing a baseball cap and she goes bonkers and flies all over the house as manages to escape out the screen door that din't close completely at the bottom. Lucky she was afraid of being outside so much she quickly hid in the corner behind my tools in the carport and I managed to throw a towel over her and bring her back inside. After that almost fiasco she and Wesley will get an empty room at the back of the house away from doors that go outside. And I need to attend to getting that screen door to close properly. Missy is a natural total scaredy cat but I do have her flying to my arm for treats now so she's spending less and less of her life in fear.

Just kinda speaking into the void:

Turns out, using LIE can have a major impact on performance.

I'm working on a scene and for the first time, DAZ straight up wasn't able to render the scene. I'm not talking about dropping down to CPU, I'm talking about being unable to render, or even switch to IRAY preview mode.

The scene contained a fair amount of elements, but I had done more complex scenes before so I was a bit puzzled.

Turns out the problem was one character that used 4 LIE layers. Looking further into it, I saw that DAZ had created far more temporary files than necessary. For example, it had created separate temporary maps for Base Colour and Translucency. This wasn't necessary for this particular skin, which uses identical maps for those two layers. There were also separate temporary maps for Face, Ears, and Eye Sockets when one can just use the same map for all 3 surfaces. Same with Arms/Fingernails and Legs/Toe Nails.

I baked all maps and streamlined the whole thing, and it's rendering fine now.

Valentino 8                    Volta Hair and Beard for G8                  dforce Scallywag Outfit for G8M                dforce Scallywag Outfit Textures

Valentino- I like his look and his skin. I didn't find his eyebrows so I used Dain 8's for this image. The product page says Facial Hair: Valentino 8 Eyebrows but I have yet to find them....  Will keep looking and update this when I find them or where they could be.

Volta Hair-I think im going to like it, it did want I wanted although I was expecting more wave still on the left.  It really didn't simulate much but it wasn't a whole lot of position change to it.  I did tweak the black hair because it was a little to gray for me. It does have a version for G8F. I have not played with the beard yet.

Scallywag Outfit-The outfit looks good as far as thickness.  It does not look paper thin to me. But the outfit has absolutely no morphs that I have found?  Which is confusing because the product description says "dforce enabled and there are tons of supported morphs."

Scallywag Outfit Textures-I really liked these and they did not disappoint so far.  They have edge details and look good to me.  My favorite I think is the one in the image used.

@Daventaki, I have tried the Scallywag and Naval Uniform and Valentino, and ran into the problem at the waist on the Scallyway but the textures I loved. I am glad you mentioned the eyebrows, when I did my render of him, I thought I was losing my mind because I couldn't find them. I just looked at DIM and 'Installed Files' and then the Promo, and the Read Me, Files List and it sure seems like from the promo there should be fibermesh hair eyebrows and 10 eyebrow colors, but there is nothing like that in the download or file list. Other characters and brow products can pick up the slack, but what happened? He only has painted on brows.

Valentino is a wonderful addtion to the G8M Core line-up. Love your render.

@memcneil70, yep I felt a little decieved after going on that hunt! I think he is the first in awhile that wasn't released with fibermesh eyebrows.  Not that I really need them I have a bunch to choose from but still.... At least they did include the eyebrowless texture to use with other brows.

Long Wet Hair -new from Linday, dforce and looks great BUT I had issues with this not colliding with G8F, I used the settings supplied and did everything just as I normally would and it  just right on through her shoulder and chest.  Thank goodness this hair works with Mesh Grabber!

Theory of Light-The Heavens by Fabiana at the other store.  It incudes a bunch of options for backgrounds, lighting plus it includes the rainbow, the background clouds (with multiple options) and a couple of different floors. The only thing was I expected the girl to be colorful too because of the enviroment but it still makes good lighting.  My above image with Valentino also uses this lighting pack.

This may be of interest to some of us ... though it may affect only those who install by hand (perhaps)

I had just installed today's purchases and couldn't find the characters I had installed. They were there in the windows directories, so I was confused, until I noticed that the text in Studio for my G8M directory said: 1-264 of 276.

I checked the G8F character directory and it said: 1-264 of 299.

So it turns out there are limits.

I have now split both directories into a directory for core characters and one for others (as the quickest way to separate the numbers), and I can see everybody again. Other divisions should work as well, but if you install manually and make your own directories it won't hurt to check.

Edit: Oh. Oh, that's what that 1 and the arrow on the left is for - never mind...

    @Nath,

Thanks, I opened my computer and looked at my character file and G8M are divided at 264 like you noted. 1 - 264, 265 - 398. But it only seems to break them up in the picture pane to the right of the file listing. G8F is 1 - 264 and 265 - 791. I think I buy a bit too many characters. And I have more in the cart right now.

I am the opposite. I have too many clothes. I need more characters as I'm invariably too lazy to use the head & body morph products I've bought.

    Stetson is home!  :)

Fire is at 50% containment, but we talked to the Fire Marshal in charge of the entire operations and he said the north end is where the fire is still burning, but small flames, not the twenty to thirty footers like Wednesday-on. He said we'd be fine to bring the horses home. So when Elaine went to get her main horse, I had her bring Stetson back at the same time. (They went over together, and Elaine and I ride together, so Stetson and Wrangler are buddies.)  She loves how "Stetson loads like a pro."  No problems, even when he hasn't been loaded in six years!

Anyway, once folks on the text chat heard we were bringing ours back, several other folks decided to bring theirs too. (Elaine and I are really, really picky about our horses.)  So while Elaine is hauling horses, I'm at the barn to ensure something funky with the fire doesn't happen. I just ran home to let Ci Pwff out for a few minutes, then headed back. Just wanted to let you all know, all's good. And no, that rain that came through last night was just a 3 minute drizzle, barely wetting the sidewalk.  :(   But on the bright side, no storms/lightning.

Did you Florida folks catch the change in hurricane forecast? Was 12-14 tropical systems, now it's 14-20. And that's by Colorado State. :(   First Covid 19, then the 5 Mile Swamp FIre, next comes hurricane season. Gimme a break!

We keep getting rain, rain, rain here but I'm glad the fire is almost out there. I'm not keen on that hurricane forecast even though I'm 800 miles away from the coast they can project damage a long ways from the coast.

@Fishtales, love the render and agree that Taric is a great character. Love the movement and the outfit.

The outfit, Fighting Monk is one that really should be updated for dForce by the PAs or a new one created today that matches it. Those flaps and things would be wonderful falling naturally. I can't remember if I tried it and it exploded or avoided it altogether. I am not that great on dForcing older clothing.

A kit bashing of the items included with this post.

I pretty much use these cameras by @InaneGlory @InaneGlory for all images. https://www.daz3d.com/ig-photographers-toolbox-35mm-cameras they are quick to setup and they are loaded with my base project all ready to go.

I have some many lite kits but these by @DazOriginals @RuntimeDNA @Syyd @Traveler are the most used https://www.daz3d.com/ultra-genesis-studio-vol-2-ring-flash. They are also loaded with base project.

Nice to have a 3 point light system on initial load that can be quickly adjusted. to suit your needs. I use the standing and ground positions, sometimes at the same time. As it lights a scene very well.

I purchased Scary Mary by Oskarsson @oskarsson, https://www.daz3d.com/scary-mary-for-genesis-8-female, originally for a children of the corn type of image. So, for a  different type of character she can work well in many different types of images.

I have a lot of scenes using the https://www.daz3d.com/nature-water-plants by @AndreyPestryakov. This time I used the water lilies. And, there even a few plant styles the look like the reeds along an Egyptian river. Well, it's my world so I can even use them in a desert! lol.

I use the back grounds very often by Dreamlight @dreamlight. In scenes. This time I used https://www.daz3d.com/enchanted-jungle-backgrounds and I used it in these two images. https://www.daz3d.com/gallery/#images/875741/. and https://www.daz3d.com/gallery/#images/884506/.

The hair by 3DCelebrity @3dcelebrity https://www.daz3d.com/textured-bob-hair-for-genesis-8-and-3-females  is also used a lot. Just seems to fit with some images such as this.

I've used the casual springtime by Ryverthorn @ryverthorn with out the Kimono. https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-casual-springtime-for-genesis-8-females

The voodoo hut by Val3dart @val3dart has multiple uses from different angles in images. This is from the side and rotated. https://www.daz3d.com/voodoo-hut

Because I was able to get Toon Generations 2 Mega Bundle for Genesis 3 Female(s) and Male(s) for free in November 2017 due to a glitch that appeared that it was a legitimate discount, I felt bad afterwards when I found out it was a computer mess. So today, I bought the new Toon Bundle to make it more even and also, I was intrigued by some of the new options. My first attempt was with G8F and I adjusted her with the dial options - Enable TG4 40% and TG4 Age 15. I found typing in a number was easier on my computer than trying to get the dial where I wanted with my mouse. I used bluejuante's Ensley's skin, eyes, makeups, and blush. Then tested the new hair Volta and have to admit, I always have operator errors choosing colors on these hairs. It is hit or miss for me. Bit of a miss this time. I liked tentman's new outfit and put it on, and added the bag from another outfit. She is sitting on the stool from the Reading Corner, and is in The Gothic Library. Of course I used the incomparable sitting poses from Those Things.

If you love Toons, you will love this package. If you have no love or not, but may want to play, the bundle or anyone of the indivdual products is worth your time and money.

Not sure what is going on with the renders now with the update, it still has grain after three house and over 5000 iterations.

I just got back from the barn, driving Garcon Point Road. Devastation, and sheer miracles, side by side. When I first started down the road, I just got nauseated, not knowing how bad it was going to be. But there were signs of hope, and just plain miraculous scenes.

One house had a burned up car and burned up horse trailer right next to the perfectly untouched home.

One house- the fire burned up to the driveway on the left. The house, the yard behind it, and to the right of the driveway- pure greenery. You KNOW the firefighters did that.

Two homes ON Garcon Point Road, totally melted.

A huge 100 acre or more cattle ranch, all pastures- totally green with green vegetation/pine trees all the way around it- fine. The next home over, totally charred.. The mansion looks like Southfork from Dallas TV show. All those pastures are a wonder they didn't burn, with the embers flying everywhere in 30mph winds.

There's so many places the black came right up to homes, about eight fto ten feet away, and stopped in an almost perfect line. You know again the firefighters did that, standing shoulder to shoulder in that line to hold the fire.

I measured the distance from the last charred forest, to Elaine's house. It was 1.4 miles. Only .8 of a mile from Mary Kitchens Road (where Elaine's 43 acres behind the barn connects to the road.)  That was unnerving as we all estimated the fire to be about 2 to 3 miles away. When I took those pictures which are on Facebook, that's when it was the closest. Yikes. We were ready to flee at a second's notice, all vehicles pointing out the driveway, good thing, huh.
