Draping clothing

Hi all,

Apologies if this is the wrong sub-forum. But it is a kind of nuts and bolts question, so...

I have been working on a render which is meant to be suggestive, a bed with piled sheets and suggestive shadows hitting the wall behind the lamp. To get the point across, I want to show some discarded clothing, some on the floor, maybe draped across the bed post. Is there a way to do this with the dynamic cloth draping options, or am I barking up the wrong tree. I just can't work out how to do it. Is it possible? Can someone give me instructions as to how I would go about it?

Thanks in advance...

If you are using DAZ Studio, dynamic cloth only works on items made for the system -- you can't just drape any item.

Thanks, I figured that was probably the case. Shame :-/

I've never used Dynamic Clothing, but could it be draped on a figure, then hide the figure?

Not really, I want the items to be strewn on the floor in as pile, draped over a bedpost etc. Dynamic clothing worn by a figure just tries to dangle it on the figure itself.

(or so I understand, I've never really worked out how to get it looking nice that way either)

You can do that with dynamic clothing, it doesn't have to be put on a figure.

    That's awesome, it's exactly what I'm after.

Sorry to be thick, but can you tell me how to do it (or point me to a tutorial). I just can't work it out, never seems to work for me...

I just took a dynamic item (the Monster Robe), rotated it 90 degrees and raised it above the chair, and let it drape.

This optitex bundle of clothes has plenty of variety for a clothing pile on the floor, http://www.daz3d.com/ultimate-pattern-design-kit
As Wendy mentioned the Optitex site has clothing freebies too
