New User's Contest - May 2014
Sponsored by DAZ 3D
Are you new to the 3D World? Are you at the beginning stages of learning 3D rendering? Have you been around for a little bit but feel you could benefit from some feedback or instruction? Have you been around awhile and would like to help other members start their creative journey? Well then come and join the fun as we host our newest contest...

"Portrait render contest"
This contest is designed to help you focus on face, eyes, posing, expression etc, in order to produce a good portrait..
Then next month we will have a follow up contest to take your finalized image of the person or character and experiment with the lighting in different ways etc. For this 2nd contest you can either use the image you have done for this month, or do a different one.
Intent: Bringing a portrait to life
A good portrait will capture a character's personality. A Straight on facial study with a cheesy grin and harsh lightning will not look good, so we will be concentrating on the posing and expression, how the eyes affect a good portrait and other similar points.
Then, as I said, next month we can concentrate on the best way to light the character to get the best effect.
I will be checking in on the WIP THREAD as will the rest of the Community Volunteers to try and help with anything you all may need
For a list of the current contest rules, please see this thread :Contest Rules

When working on your submissions, if you would like to get feedback as you work or before posting your final image, please post your image to the WIP THREAD. People will be popping in to the WIP THREAD to give you some critique and advice on your entry and help along the way.
Please keep all comments on entries etc to the WIP THREAD as well because comments or requests for help/feedback/advice will be removed from the contest thread and merged into the WIP THREAD. This thread is only for posting final contest submissions.
For those veterans of the forums that would like to help, because this contest is designed for the beginner to learn from, we will be randomly selecting posts offering helpful tips and/or critiques to receive a special voucher as well so, whether you are a seasoned artist or an aspiring one, there is fun for everyone!
Closing Date: May 31st 2014

Complete change from WIP post. Tried following advice in http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/17656, specifically 7.3 (Fantom shielding). Hair is good, not sure about the lighting on the face.
Edit: Image removed as did not meet competition requirements in terms of overall dimensions.

Just read Comp Rules, disregard previous entry due to over-size in respect of dimensions. Here is an appropriately sized entry.
(Looked pretty good at 1200 x 675, fair bit of detail lost now but I suppose we are all working under the same constraints.)

Hello everyone, I have decided to participate as well so, here comes my render!
Title: Genesis 2 Female
Programes Used : Daz Studio 4.6 Pro
Rendering time: 42 min. 33 sec.
Story: I tried to capture the Genesis 2 Female in her basic beauty. I played with the expression and then later with the render settings a bit. Not that I knew what I was doing really. I also have plenty of other combinations with different hair colors and render settings but as I was randomly adjusting the render settings not knowing that I was doing, I selected a much higher detail render than were my previously ones which took quite a long time so I decided to post this one as the final work.
All items, the hair, make up option, eye color are the basic items that came with the Daz Studio, nothing special really.
Also, no postwork was done, the only program I used was the Daz Studio.
Okay that´s it. I hope you like my entry, I just started yesterday and this is one of my first renders!
Have a great day everyone and I wish you all a good luck! Love all of your renders!
This is the last day for the May contest. This is my first time at entering so here is my entry.
Title: Thoughts of Home
Bryce 7.1 free version
Daz 4.6 free version
Render time: 2.5 hours
Title: "Rex Relaxing"
Posing: DAZ Studio Pro 4.6
Postwork: Lots in Photoshop to convert it to line art. Also, some work smoothing and reshaping the beard to make it look a little more natural. Expression and lighting have not been significantly altered.
Note: My interests right now are focused on converting renders into line art for publication... mostly in b&w. In this instance, however, I felt the color really brought something to the image, so I left it in.
I hope I'm submitting correctly. I'm signed into my regular account. Is that the same as a forum account?
Anyway here's my first submission, ever. I'm a big Hellsing fan --'though I don't tell my adult friends this :-).
Here's Integra Hellsing after a hard day. She has to Protect Queen and country from supernatural fiends, send her men to their deaths in battle, and keep her psychopathic vampire servant in line. She's a very stressed-out girl. I call this Integra's Doubts.
BTW: I used only the headlamp on this one. Please excuse the lack of lighting. I used Daz Studio 4.6 with no postwork.
Contest is now closed. Good luck everyone.
