how to remove Iray render shadows?

Is there a simple solution how to turn off shadows from a character that shows up behind them or around the scene at all in an Iray render?

Nope. Iray is physics based. You can use actual lighting methds to soften and diffuse shadows.

    Render separate canvases and composite.

With DS 3Delight rendering you can turn off shadows for the individual lights, but with DS Iray you can't

And if you are not after a 'photographic' (whatever that means) look, 3Delight might actually be a better option because it lets you do un-lifelike effects like that.

  • Don't light realistically even in Iray?

Pixar does not do that. They light their scenes cinematically, for effect. Think about light source placement for effect rather than for realism, and the shadows are less likely to be an issue.

An overhead or camera-side mesh light? A direct spotlight from the camera to fill?

Just render each layer seperately and set it to a png to get everything rendered with an alpha channel. Then in Photoshop, or whatever program you use, bring all the layers how they should be and you will be shadowless!

There is a option for ground shadow only.

If you are rendering just a character with no background, you can turn off the ground shadow. Its in the Iray settings, environment section.

You can place several ghost lights at various positions around your figures to soften the shadows. Ghost lights don't appear in the renders, but the light can be directed as needed. You can dial them down to minimal brightness just to soften shadows without washing out the scene.

  • to turn of shaddows all you have to do is to turn the ground shaddow intencity to zero(0.0) default it is set to 1.0

  • I hope it will help anyone looking! In Enviorement Options - Search = Ground Shadow Intensity - Change Value to 0

    No more Shadows :)

    Hope this Helps!

  • That will not, as far as I know, work with a ground that is part of a model.
