S.O.S Content Issues

Anyone have any idea why when I load content, saving a scene, and then when reopening the scene, some content is lost ???

By 'lost' do you mean just not there at all, or a set of error messages stating various things cannot be found? In either case a bit more info would be useful - what product(s) and what error messages. Can you also confirm the DS version, you say 4.5 latest, but latest is 4.6 (4.6.2.120)

As in, it can't locate them even though they are there. As far as which ones, no way in a million years can I go through all my content. I'm already in the process of putting back all my content after changing over from windows 7 to 8.1.

If the error message is 'Cannot find file for storable ....', then you haven't copied over your 'data' folder, or DS doesn't know where to find it.

The folder which holds the 'data' folder MUST be listed as a DAZ Studio Formats folder in Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory manager.

Go to Help > Troubleshooting > View Log File, and look for the entries that DS cannot find, no need to list all of your content. Once you find the cause, it should be easily remedied.

If that was the case, I wouldn't be able to load content to begin with would I?

    It's saying:
Some assets needed to load the file were missing. The content may not work as expected.

Not to mention when I do go to save a scene. It won't do it the first time around. I have to save it a second time before it saves the scene.

Don't put content in the application folder on Windows Vista or later.

THAT PART doesn't mater at all! I've ALWAYS had my Content there with ZERO problem! That is NOT the issue at all and frankly a MYTH. As long as you have ALL CONTENT consistent in a folder as I do is what matters. PLEASE STAY ON TRACK WITH ORIGINAL QUERY!

Your symptoms are entirely consistent with those expected from having content in the application folder so that files written to the content directory by the application are shunted to Virtual Store and then not found later.

Please be polite to those trying to help you.

I'm sorry but that , IS FALSE! If you read my last response, I"VE NEVER had a previous problem with my content in this location AND others have also stated in other forums the same thing. As long as content is consistent, it doesn't matter.

In Windows 7 and Windows 8 the OS protection values for the Programs Files Areas have greatly changed. Your issue IS the folder in that area. Believe it or do not. To ignore information from two users who have well over 50 years of PC experience combined is your choice. We both know what we are talking about.

I'm sorry but, your wrong! I KNOW and have corresponded others with windows 8 and 8.1! They have their Content folder where I do OR in other locations, other than what YOU describe and yet met with NO PROBLEMS! SO..what you're saying is total bullshit. I don't care about years working with computers in general. That's NOT the topic! Frankly has nothing to do with this issue and again, off topic. Also illogical since some content is found and yet not others.
So I'm not going to apologize that I think you're full of bloody crap!

The other reason why I know it's BS is because i had ZERO PROBLEM with Windows 7 had you cared to properly read my replies which, you failed at. Windows 7 I had my content as you see above!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At the risk of more vitriol tipped my way ... I suspect that up until now then you have either been lucky or under the old OS you had modified the UAC/permissions to the Program Files directory. It is a recommendation that programs get installed in Program Files and data get stored elsewhere (default seems to be either under My Documents or in the Roaming AppData folder).

NOPE! NO MODIFICATIONS! Just direct Content into said folder stated above!

Do as you think is right. All your saves are now going to other locations that are not mapped and will never load again but I do not know that. Fight your PC if that is your wish.

Hmm.. I wonder if it is because DAZ Studio auto Defaults to the LAST content folder listed in the last install from the Registery? Hmm... maybe...
