Modeled Talk Show, but difficult to texture

I thought I'd share with everyone the work that I've done on making a talk show. The model isn't completely finished, but a lot of it is done. I'm not sure what to do with it as I'm not sure I can create decent textures for it. Anyone know where I can get textures I could actually use for a model I intend to distribute, or some ideas on where to go to learn about making textures from scratch? I know how to model, I just never learned how to do texture work which of course is half the challenge of making something.

Anyways, here is a picture of what I modeled.

    Thanks for the response.

The link you sent me doesn't really cover how to create a base texture. That tends to be my problem. Take the floor for example. I need some kind of basic wood parquet texture for that. I'm not a very good photographer so I'm not sure how to really capture that kind of image myself. As for trying to get a texture that's available out there somewhere, most don't allow you to use a texture in a model you're going to distribute. It's rather tricky to tell what textures out there I could do something like that with.

As for what program I intend to use it for, I am doing the modeling and texturing in Maya. After the model is done, I will export it as a .obj and probably put it into Daz3d and set it up for use with Reality (Lux) or some other engine.

Nice modeling there, looks really good.

Just put 'public domain zero cc textures' into a search engine of your choice. Get a hold of something like crazybump or a cheaper type called Mindtex to produce bumpmap's and normal's from the textures you use. Some painting programs like Gimp etc can produce textures also.
As far as how to UV, I've just started to texture and I looked at Youtube uv Tutorials. So as a starting point I'd look for tutorials that are using your particular software modeller.

ps. I think Mindtex is around $15 and it works just like Crazybump.

I'm afraid I can't help with the texturing... but I would buy that set. Just saying.

that set looks amazing, I do hope you plan to offer it for sale! For texturing Bluebird 3D has a tutorial for her drum set and it is done in maya and she goes through the whole process, it may help you get started? Might be worth a look...

Wow, gorgeous model! I would love to texture it for you, but that wouldn't help you learn to do it. As Chohole suggests, CG textures is a very good starting point. Also do a search for stock photography or similar and you should get more than you needed.

My biggest recomendation for you for that type of model is Filter Forge. It should meet all your requirements, and then some.

I don't think the textures from CGTextures are re-distributable though.

I don't think the textures from CGTextures are re-distributable though.

Not as textures, no but they are when used as a resource.

    I quote

    CONDITIONS OF USE

Use of the Textures is only allowed under the following conditions:
    - Private or commercial use
    - Use in 2D or 3D computer graphics, movies and printed media
    - Incorporation in computer games, 3D models
    - Selling 3D models bundled with modified versions of the textures, when the texture is customized for the 3D model

    with this proviso

The license granted for the use of the textures gives you no lawful right to submit, use or otherwise make available the textures in Second Life or otherwise to Linden Research, Inc. Use of the textures in such manner will be an infringement of the intellectual property rights if CGTextures and CGTextures reserves its right to take action to prevent any such infringement

So you can use as resource and create a UV 'world map' and thats ok. Thanks for the clarification chohole.
