Now all but extinct, the Highland gorilla (Gorilla beringei celti) were a little known subspecies of gorilla and were mostly closely related to the mountain gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei). Other than humans, the Highland gorilla is the only known primate that voluntarily listens to and plays bagpipe music. It is unknown when or how the subspecies arrived in Scotland but they quickly adapted to the environment. The few remaining members of Highland gorillas have left Loch Hourn and travel the Celtic festival circuit.
