Wow!
I'm also impressed by the speed of the render, unless you just have a monstrously powerful computer behind it, that's very quick for a scene of that complexity and size to render to such clarity.
Awesome work.
so is it safe to move to 1.4 of lux?
My pc is a few years old. I only used one light and that might be the reason for the speed. I spent some time converting all the shaders to lux materials. Most of them are LUX metal 2 with texture maps. I only had to do that on one starhawk, then it was replicated using the surface replicator.
I cut the render off after an hour, and that was rendering both stereoscopic images at the same time.
Since this was my first test of 1.4, more experiments are needed.
A quick experiment with Carrara 8.5 Pro, LUXUS for Carraraa and LuxRender 1.4 RC1.
Very beautiful!
Is the light bloom from LUXUS or postwork?
Thanks,
I used a slightly blurred layer to soften the image in Photoshop during color correction
If you utilize the Open CL version it will use the CPU and GPU.
It was using my R7 240 4 GB in Daz Studio quite well, now to try it in Carrara.

Ah, that's why it's faster - I'm using the Open CL version.

Thanks for the info.
I browsed the web for anyone using LuxRender specifically with AMD GPU's and very little was showing up in searches. I wanted to see how it compared to Nvidia GPU rendering speeds.
This looks really awesome. A few questions.
1. How much faster was this render compared to other Lux render scenes?
2. Do you think the quality is the same as before?
3. Do you think the LuxCore is going to be a good thing for LuxRender?
I ask all of this because if I understood the page correctly , it is stating that LuxRender has recently taken on some of the faster rendering code from LuxCore. But LuxCore is biased currently, and does not have spectral abilities as well as some other features. I am wondering because I do not see it addressed, is to ask if this newest version of LuxRender is still unbiased, or has a slight bias been adopted to speed up the rendering?
I'm extremely new to LuxRender. I only recently became interested in it after playing with Octane. Not that I don't love Octane, but LUxRender is free and I really like that such a tool is available free of charge and I want to be a part of that.
Best case scenario is that LuxCore will be made unbaised before it becomes the new base renderer in LuxRender, leading to a fast producing LuxRender with all the unbiased quality we have come to love. Worst case scenario would be that LuxCore is biased but super fast, and much of its speed is due to time saved by the biases they've introduced. Not sure. I'd love to hear your opinion on it. Thnx.

Thanks for the kind words and feedback.
My experiments with the new version were using the Open CL version. I haven't tried it with old renders to compare, but the new renders seem quicker. The quality seems better too.
I don't know much about LuxCore. Has anyone had any experience with it?
joeping, don't know if it was just me or whether there's something up with your latest post, but it didn't show right in the forums (I was still able to view it by clicking over to your site of course, but I thought I should mention).
Also, you truly are a wizard at making Luxus renders that are fantastic. I worry that some of the other carrara members miss out on this because they might see a thread titled 'Luxus for Carrara question' and think 'well I don't have Luxus, so...' and then never peek inside, thus missing out on all these fantastic renders. I wanted to encourage you to double post here and also into the 'post your Carrara renders' thread too, so others don't miss out. :) Also I really think you could be cleaning up on prizes if you entered into some of the challenge contests too.
Edit: Actually I reloaded the forum and now the render above is visible. So it was probably just my computer being fussy for a second there...
Another quick experiment with Carrara 8.5 Pro, LUXUS for Carrara and LuxRender 1.4 RC1. This time I was playing with volumetric lights and LUX materials. I wanted to try some of the techniques from my other post [ http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45259/ ] with the new version of LUX.
Jon - Thanks for the encouragement. Since these are just experiments, maybe I need to post more information about my process to help other avoid my problems and explain my work around those problems. :)
JoePing that would be good then I may be able to do some with out the issues you have hit and learn from them.

Excellent Joe!
I would be curious to see same rendered scene without Luxus in Carrara, to compare…
Thanks,
I would have to recreate the scene to compare them, because I used my version of opus magnum where I converted all the textures to lux materials. :)
Beautiful renders, Joe. Really inspiring.
Hi,
